You should put your FI's name, son of Mr. and Mrs. so & so.

It's not necessary to put your future in laws on the invitations. I've seen some that do, but if they are not footing the bill than they don't have to be on the invitation. And it's absolutely right that you CAN'T make everyone happy.

I've had to let things go myself, because my fiance and I both come from divorced families, some with multiple re-marriages. UGH! It's our day, not theirs so make it a day that you always dreamed of!

Kathi,

My FI and I are in the same boat as you. We are both paying for the wedding 100%. Both of parents are still living. We were thinking about doing something like...'Together with our parents...Lisa (last Name) and Harry (Last name) request your...blah blah blah...

We have some time to decide this...our wedding date is October 20th.

I would go with...

Groom
son of Mr & Mrs.________

This way you make them happy by putting them on, but it won't be up top like they hosting.
My parents gave us the $ for the wedding, but his parents are helping with $ for the house so we put both of them up top--they deserve it for all they've done for us.

Kathi....

I love the fall too that is why we choose October!
I was going to make my own invitations but I found ones that have leaves on it for the fall from Invitations by Dawn.
I figured in the long run...it would be better to order them then to make them. I figured out the cost and I wasnt saving that much money by making them (my time included...which is very valuable!! LOL)

Where did you find yours? In a store or on-line?

It really totally depends. I did 'son of' for two reasons. First, i absolutely adore his parents, and if not for them, i wouldn't be blessed with him. Secondly, they are contributing quite a bit to the wedding expenses. But even if that were not so, i would still mention them because they have been a large part of my life for the past 6 years. A LOT of my girl friends did not mention their FI's parents, and it is your choice.
GOod luck

We are paying for 100% of the wedding ourselves and we went with 'Together with our parents Lisa and Bob...blah blah'. However, I think if his parents are not contributing it is fine to go with the traditional wording - I agree with all the other posters - it is absolutely your day and you should have it the way you want :)
