The post office is getting on my last nerve. This is all BS
AMEN!
Double AMEN! BTW, I have already heard that a friend got her invite today, sent yesterday, not hand cancelled, in perfect condition. They CAN do it right, the PO workers(some of them)just have some need to give people a hard time. I really think it boils down to the fact that they dont want to have to hand cancel them and take the extra 2 seconds to do it! Glad at least one of them made it ok!

i didnt hand cancel, no real need (flat envelopes)
What does this hand canceling mean. Im just about ready to send my invites, I just need to do the addresses (printing on clear labels). When I got them weighed at the post office no one mentioned this.
Thanks!
It's where they stamp by hand instead of putting it thru the machine, some PO's wont do it, some will charge extra. Mostly people with fragile or bumpy invites do it. also it looks a little better.
Thanks for the info. I'm a little nervous now though bc my invites have bows (that were a PITA to tie on) on them that I didn't add when I had an invitation weighed. With the bows on the envelope isn't really flat. Hopefully this doesn't cause me a problem bc I already bought the $.66 stamps.

I'm only guessing here but the embossed address or address on the back may be a problem because the addresses are read by machines; not humans.
I had my addresses printed on the front, with no 'bumps' on the inside (like a bow or crystal). I was able to use the 66-cent 'Yes, I Do' stamp. They still had to be hand cancelled due to the thickness of the envelope, but the P.O. didn't charge extra. However, my daughter's bridal shower invite was of average size but due to a crystal on the invite, they charged a 20-cent surcharge on each invitation for hand canceling.

Follow up to my last post: So, i work with this person... how bad would it be to just hand it to her at this point!!!
I handed the invites to all my coworkers, even my boss. I didn't even put RSVP stamps on them (except for my boss because I figured he'd need his wife to sign off on it). If I see them every day, I just couldn't see sending it in the mail.

I jinxed myself by saying that we didn't have any issues with the post office! Wedding invites were fine, but apparently RD invites weren't so lucky.

Did anyone see the post office hand cancel their invitations? I went in with them all in a box today and the girl (who I saw this morning to get all the stamps from) said it was great I had them in a box so that they could be brought in to be hand canceled. Then she took the box and that was it lol.

I don't think mine were hand canceled. They were pretty flat.

The girl at my post office said she will hand cancel them and then my sister told me her invitation came with a few wrinkles on it and that it looked like it has been through hell and back. I was freaking out about it but others said the invitation came fine. So I was thankful for that.

My uncle in PA told my mom that he got the invite (a week after mailing) and that it looked really beat up. I can't imagine what my invitations to family in California looked like.

They are a hot mess. I sent three invitations to three people who lived at the same address. One person got theirs fine. The other two got returned as undeliverable.. and they had the SAME EXACT address as the other.
