None of that makes any sense! Luckily I really didn't have an issue with invitations not being delivered. I mailed out just over 100 and found out that two weren't received. One was to Italy, so that might have just taken longer - not sure if she received it later. The other one was local, but I'm wondering if we were given the wrong address. The annoying part is that it was for FMIL's friend, and FMIL knew the woman didn't receive it but didn't tell us until we asked her to follow up on the non-response.

i didnt hand cancel, no real need (flat envelopes)
My mom took ours to the post office to get weighed and the woman working there was a SUPER b*tch to her and said that because our return address was on the back we were probably going to get a bunch back in the mail unless we got them hand cancelled (which we were doing anyway).
This is so much BS! I really hate the USPO. I just got back from the PO and they told me the exact opposite. We have our address embossed on the back and they said they WOULD NOT hand cancel them unless I 'darkened' the address. So I just said, 'fine, I will take my chances and not hand cancel them' I just dumped them in the box. I only have a wax seal on the back, its almost flat, so I don't care if it gets a little cracked. But I will be so pissed if they send them back BECAUSE the return address isnt dark enough! That doesn't even make sense!
It makes ZERO sense to me. What color is the address on the back? This is absurd.

I honestly feel like invitations are just a complete waste at this point. I spent A LOT of freaking money on stuff that's now getting lost in the mail. Advice to future brides: DONT WASTE TIME AND MONEY ON INVITATIONS.

I just got my first RETURN to sender but it was my fault, I guessed at the address (looked it up, found 2, chose one!)

We haven't gotten any RSVPs in 2 days!! I'm going to blame this on the heat?
I'm also really paranoid today, bc I started worrying like what if everyone I invited with guest decided to bring a guest? Do people realize they don't have to? I'm losing my sh*t today!!! Ahhhh!

At least you know she'll get it. Hey and maybe she'll hand you the response card back on the spot!

The address on the back is embossed, so it's raised letters, perfectly readable. But what gets me is that they said they would get returned instead of just delivered to the very clear black addresses on the front! And returned because they can't read the return address. What? And these invites were done by a company that has been doing invites for 80 years, so they would have told me is this had ever been a problem. And the USPS wonders why they are almost out of business. A real business would not tolerate this just plain total laziness!

What does this hand canceling mean. Im just about ready to send my invites, I just need to do the addresses (printing on clear labels). When I got them weighed at the post office no one mentioned this.
Thanks!

So explain. If they are going to return them because they can't read the return address, where exactly will they return them to? LOL

It's where they stamp by hand instead of putting it thru the machine, some PO's wont do it, some will charge extra. Mostly people with fragile or bumpy invites do it. also it looks a little better.

She was telling me about her wedding and it was 'relaxed in a backyard' and how she doesnt like big productions. so i dont know if she will come... maybe that makes it awkward to hand it to her?? whatever, i'm gonna just do it (next week)

What is going on with the USPS and their employees (no disrespect to anyone who may work there or works there themself)? Why would businesses who make invitations offer to put addresses on the back, embossing, etc if they know that there will be a problem sending them? Because there shouldn't be a problem! The post office is getting on my last nerve. This is all BS
