For my invitations I do not plan on having an inner envelope but then how do you invite a person with a guest???
Also do you put the RSVP date 3 or 4 weeks from the wedding?
TIA

Re: Invitation questions?
If you're not going to have an inner envelope, then you'll just put it on the front in the address line itself:
Mr. John Smith and guest 123 Main Street Here, New York 12345
As far as RSVP date, the earlier the better. You WILL have stragglers and the hall usually wants a # about a month before (check your contract to see).
My RSVP date is 6/5, which I know is very early, but I would rather early than late. Just me.

Re: Invitation questions?
I put the RSVP 5 weeks before and was still waiting for a while after so put atleast four weeks in case you have to call people.
I addresses my envelopes
Ms. Kathy Williams and guest 123 Williams Lane Rochester, NY 11263

Really??? I was reading an etiquette blog and they said it should be done by word of mouth.

Re: Invitation questions?
This is what I read:
You may wish to extend an invitation to a single guest to bring a guest of their own. Whether you choose to or not is entirely up to you, but outside envelopes should not say 'and Guest'. This should be printed on the inside envelope. Should no inside envelope be used and you know that a particular single guest would like to bring someone, it is advisable to take the time to find out the guest's name. We realize that getting this information can be somewhat tedious, so here are some creative alternatives to using 'and Guest' on the outer envelope:
* Fill-in the RSVP card with the guests name along with the words 'and Guest'

Re: Invitation questions?
I think I might do the same. I dont want to pay extra to have an inner envelope and extra postage.

I don't have an inner envelope either so I'm just putting 'and guest' on the outside. My RSVP date is one month before.

Re: Invitation questions?
I tried to do the word of mouth thing and it utterly failed. To the point that my uncle was really, really upset we didn't invite him with a guest. I went up to him and his girlfriend (whose name I didn't know which is why it wasn't on the invite) and invited her in person on Saturday when I saw them at another family event. They were so happy, and I felt terrible about causing them the stress!
It's crazy how much trouble we all go to in order to follow proper etiquette sometimes. Just do whatever you want. If no inner envelopes is what you want, then put it on the outside! No one keeps the outer envelope anyway (or the inner ones for that matter, probably... which is why we didn't get lined ones)!

Re: Invitation questions?
I found out the names of the guests and had them on the outer envelope - for my one friend who isn't dating, I addressed it to her alone but left her a voicemail message saying I wasn't sure if she was dating anyone but that I hope she knows to include him if she had someone she'd like to bring.

Re: Invitation questions?
I am having an inside envelope but only addressing the outside one. I think it is perfectly find to write 'and Guest' with the name of the person you are inviting on the outside envelope. I've seen that many times.
As for RSVP, four weeks is standard. Our RSVP is 8/13.
