We are about to order our invitations and my FH brought up an interesting question. Our ceremony is going to be at 5:30 in the evening-should we say on the invitation 'at half past five in the evening' or 'at five in the evening'. He seems to think that we should put down 5 so guests know to arrive by then. Any suggestions would be awesome!!! Thanks!
Many people get to weddings early...and then have to wait...but then you have your latecomers...who think it is 15 minutes later (and walk in late)
If you want to put an earlier time, I would do 5:15 (quarter past five)
I lucked out...Im having a hospitality half hour...so guests have champagne, sparkling water and fresh fruit kabobs before the ceremony..

Re: Invitation wording question
I was going to the same thing, since our ceremony is exactly 30 mintues and the Watermill basically will make us leave the room at 1:30, I wanted to put 12:30 for a 1:00 ceremony. Well, when I discussed this with the Watermill and my invitation vendor they both said you're wedding is at 1:00, write the real time. Also, of course our invitation will go in our album, so we want to remember the true time that we go married. Just something to think about!

Re: Invitation wording question
We had the same problem and decided to go with the ceremony time as the invite time.
My stationer said that it is customary to put the invite time as 30 minutes early when the ceremony is at the reception hall. If we did this, we would have felt obligated to offer a hospitality which I would have loved to do. but in the end I didn't want to pay extra money to accomodate people that plan to show up late.
Also I know that regardless of when things are scheduled to start I arrive AT LEAST 10 minutes before the invite time and I didn't want other guests that do the same to sit around for 45 minutes waiting to begin. That would annoy me if I were the guest.
