Re: Invitation wording question

i think it would still be Mrs. if she uses her married name... BUT I would ask her how she refers to herself....

Re: Invitation wording question

ask the person. that's what i did for FMIL, i asked what she preferred. long story short, she & FHs dad where legally separated then FHs dad passed away so she is technically widowed. she picked Ms.

If there divorced, Ms.

My mom still uses her married name, even though my parents are divorced, and she goes by Ms. Mrs. indicates she is still married.

ETA: Mrs. is usually used still if a woman is widowed

Oh, thats good to know! I thought if she still used her married name, it would remain as Mrs. and Ms would be if she switched back to maiden name?

thats what i thought too... but now that you mention it... FMIL calls herself Ms. and she still uses her married name

I think Ms. is the appropriate form. I sent a STD to someone in that situation and I put 'Ms. (Ex husband's last name)'

So I asked and maybe I shouldn't have. FMIL says that she still goes by Mrs. (same last name as her ex)

hmm... what to do?
OH, and FH's father remarried.

if she still goes by Mrs. then put Mrs... i dont think it matters if FFIL is remarried...

Mr. & Mrs. John Doe & Mrs. Jane Doe

Well if that's what she goes by, then go with that. But personally, I think it makes it sound like they're still married.

Re: Invitation wording question

maybe this article will help. it does say 'or whatever her preference is'... (scroll down to 'divorced and remarried parents')

I love looking up wedding etiquette stuff!!! I feel like I'm learning traditions!!!

This is what I would think and would want. ugh.. This is what I get when I ask people what they would like.

Re: Invitation wording question

Found this online...
'No. A divorced woman should use Ms. as she is no longer 'Mrs. John Doe''

But 3 lines down it says..

'Emily Post's book of Etiquette says, a married woman uses her husbands first and last name after the honourific Mrs.
Mrs. John Smith or Mrs. J.Smith
A divorced woman who continues to use her ex-husbands last name is still entitled to the honourific Mrs. but uses her own first name

Mrs. Mary Smith or Mrs. M. Smith'

It begins... i'm commenting on my own posts lol.

Adriana, my parents are divorced and my mom still uses my dad's last name so on my invite it says Ms. ... if mom is a widow, it should it be Mrs.
