invitations - labels??!

how many of you used labels to address your wedding invitations? Does it really matter?

also curious about this...... haven't put much thought into invitations yet but for STDs, I was thinking of using labels and then also using return address labels that we're ordering from vistaprint...is that ok?

for STD labels are totally acceptable

I personally dont think using labels on invites is a big deal but i was told by family and friends that it is not acceptable and so i paid to have them done....
it was a minimal fee and worth it to make everyone happy

you can print the envelopes your self instead - thats a good option
or you can go to someone like inkspun.com that charges 39cents per envelope

I always wondered about this as well...my Mom is pretty good at calligraphy so I already told her to start brushing up on her skills!

I think it also considered not as formal to use labels. However, we used labels for a few reasons. Mainly it costs less money than having to hire someone for the calligraphy and we are trying to keep things under budget. Most of the people we invited don't go to fancy weddings that even have half the stuff that most LI weddings have, so depite using labels, the whole look of the invitiation was pretty and we received many compliments.

We ordered our from Vistaprint. We also ordered matching return address labels. The color scheme for the wedding is aqua/chocolate brown, so these matched great and we used chocolate brown envelopes.

Here's a pic of the label and the return address label

Sorry..having trouble posting the pic of the address label...but here's the link:

Address Label

ETA: We also ordered the envelope seals:

The nice thing is that they have a whole set of matching items. We are making our menus with the same design. We ordered the mug, post-its, the notebook, pens. We could have kept going!!

I personally think it's a no-no. Even if you don't want to spend the $ for a calligrapher, I would suggest printing the envelopes instead of labels.

I personally think labels are too informal for a wedding, but we also live in an 'anything goes'kind of time too

ITA. I think you should print directly on the envelope instead of using labels.

I was going to have my mom write out my envelopes using calligraphy but hers is very classic (old fashioned) and our wedding and invitations are modern. We had the return addresses pre printed but we are going to try to run our envelopes through our printer in order to avoid using address labels. I will let you all know how it works. I have gotten two wedding invitations this year with addresses with labels and they didn't look that bad but I extra envelopes so I thought I would at least try a few with my own printer.

We're debating of doing it. More than likely most of the guests aren't going to be examining the envelope & all the extra work. We're going to be using the clear labels & script writting.

i just put the envelope threw the printer

I was totally up for printing my own envelopes but then I found Toni from R.S.V.P. She does calligraphy and she is DIRT cheap and does a fabulous job. After realizing I would have to buy ink for my printer (i never use it) I opted and spent less getting them done. However, I think if not calligraphy , definitely print them but please please please do not use labels

If you are deciding between that and hand writing them, def do labels.. but i think that you should at least try to print the addresses on the envelopes first if you dont want to pay for the calligrapher or the invitiaton place to print them with the invites.

We had our invites printed

We did labels for the Shower, though and they were fine

The lady who did my invites made cool wrap around labels with calligraphy writing. IMO, plain labels are not ok to use for invites...you should try to dress up the outside of the invite.
