So....FH and I are trying to cut down the list. It is has gotten longer than we ever expected!! My question is....what is the proper etiquette for inviting a guest? We have some close friends who do not have significant others and while we initially have them on the list with a guest we are reconsidering. Is inviting them with a guest a must or just a nice thing to do??? Of course, if they have been dating someone for a while we will def invite both. I am so confused and have to send out the invites next week!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: Invitations 'with guest' etiquette
i feel if someone can call their significant other their 'boyfriend' or 'girlfriend' they should be invited....anyone else then no. i had this same problem! i even had close family members invited by their lonesome if they weren't with someone. dont worry! people will ultimately understand, and if they dont - when the wedding is over they'll get over it

Re: Invitations 'with guest' etiquette
i invited most with guests and left it up to them to decide if they wanted to bring someone or not--- but those who hadwhat we labeled 'flavores of the week' were invited alone...

i also invited someone with a guest if i knew they weren't going to know a soul there! i knew my clan of friends would have fun with each other, and of course family, but i had some friends from out of state or from college or highschool that i knew wouldn't know ANYBODY, so i invited them with a date. it's really a personel choice! do what u have to do....no regrets!!!

Re: Invitations 'with guest' etiquette
we are dealing with an occupancy issues as we invited 50 over the room occupancy. We decided to invite only out of town guests with a guest if they were single.

Re: Invitations 'with guest' etiquette
from what I have read about etiquette on this topic...if a friend/relative is married/engaged/living with someone/or you personally know the significant other, they should be invited with that person. However, if friend/relative does not fit into any of the above categories...they need not be invited with a guest...after that it is simply your preference...hopethis was a bit helpful

Re: Invitations 'with guest' etiquette
a few of the functions that ive been to where the invitation said Invitee + 1, if there were two friends who knew each other, and neither of them had significant others, they would bring each other as dates...
one never knows how it will work out until all the rsvps are in and the people are jammin on the dance floor.

Re: Invitations 'with guest' etiquette
My FH was once invited to a wedding solo and I was so upset....he refused to go and said even if we weren't together he would never go to a wedding alone.
FH has a huge family and is close with his 2nd & 3rd cousins....to cut back we simply invited these people (some of them are 18-21) as a family, not individually or w/ guest. But everyone else on our list is invited with a guest and like someone said before we know that a bunch of them will come as each others dates so there really won't be extra people!
Good Luck with this!

Re: Invitations 'with guest' etiquette
With us, the only people who gets an 'and guest' are those who are married or engaged. I already explained to our friends that we can't afford a huge event - so everyone knows that they can't bring their gf/bf - but on the plus side they know and are close with everyone at their table.
We pretty much said 'it's more of a reunion of friends' than anything else. So far everyone understood.
