Invite dilemma *UPDATED*

Original post by Espo22

Ok i already sent my list to the calligrapher but i can email her to make the change since she just has to add to it.

Here is the problem, on outer envelopes you do NOT write and guest, just the persons name and then you use the inner envelope to write their name plus 'and guest' problem is that i do not have envelopes, they are boxed invitations. We are inviting everybody with and guest. Most people are in relationships but there are some single people of course, i sent the excel sheet with my guest list and addresses and put single people just with their name. I am hoping they'll assume its with and guest since most guests assume that haha. Many that i am close with i will let them know but now im afraid some will think that they weren't invited with a guest. Should i just write and guest on the boxed invite or is there any other way to let them know i know some single guests will come alone regardless and i know which ones will but i think theres a few that will want to bring a guest

*****UPDATED***** thank you ladies, i emailed calligrapher and told her to put and guest next to each single person invited

wow, you're not supposed to put and guest on the outer envelope? I'm trying to remember... this is good to know; i'm doing invites this weekend and i have outer and inner.

i guess the and guest will just go on the inner, or if you know the person's name do you do 'joe smith and lisa' or whatever?

Crane's website has great info on the etiquette of inner and outer envelopes:

well thats what etiquette says but seems like many do put 'and guest' on the outer since many dont use inner envelopes anymore so seems to be ok now.

For everyone in a relationship i made sure to get their first and last name just in case i didnt know it so everybody in a relationship i addressed it to both. I made FH call his friends to get the gf's names of those whose last name i didnt know

Denise, I would write 'and guest' to avoid any confusion and unnecessary stress for yourself.
It will not look bad b/c many people who get regular invitiations skip on the printing on the inner envelope and only print on outter so in those cases 'and guest' is on the outter anyways.

Re: Invite dilemma

what about writing it on the response card

Re: Invite dilemma

If the invite does not say and guest then you are only inviting the person listed.
