You are 100% correct. If FI's mom wants to give the impression that she is co-hosting the wedding then she needs to pay up.

Re: Invite wording!! Am I wrong?
We are doing the following:
Mr. and Mrs Bride request the honor of your presence at the wedding of their daughter, Bride to Groom Son of Mr. and Mrs Smith and Mr Jones.
His parents are divorced, both are remarried, his step dad raised him with his mom and his dad's new wife does not feel comforable being listed on the invitation.
I agree, it is going to look ridiculous and look like a phone book, but at least everyone is happy. As one of my friends pointed out, the only one that really cares about the invitations are the bride and the parents - everyone else just wants to know when and where they have to be for the party!

Re: Invite wording!! Am I wrong?
Absolutely right, Junebride. And who doesn't want everyone happy at a time like this? Feelings get hurt very quickly and can undo any good we have done in the past. Plus, unfortunately, we have seen that hurt feelings last mighty long.
I hated decided the wording on mine, but am feelings so much better after reading what you all are saying.
Thanks and good luck everyone. This was a great thread.
Have blast of a week-end!

Re: Invite wording!! Am I wrong?
when my sister got married my parents payed 100%, but my sisters inlaws offered to pay, my parents respectfully declined their offer. when the invites came out without my sisters inlaws names on them her MIL pitched a fit, and my parents had to have another set of invitations made up and mailed out to all of the grooms family. mind you, the first set had already been mailed. i know it sounds crappy, but sometimes it is better to keep the peace than cause a war. but i do agree that traditionally the people who pay are the people who are named.

TWO sets of invitations? Oh wow, that takes the cake. Did they include a retraction too?
