Invites. Do they NEED a liner?

Re: Invites. Do they NEED a liner?

Thanks for all of your responses. This particular invitation is a pretty large one. I dont remember seeing any others of that size with or without liners but I will look.

The whole point of the liner is not even to look formal. The liner was out in place to absorb excess ink. Modern printign technology obviates the need for the liner entirely

Jen, you need to start a wedding consultation business. I never thought of that. You made me feel better.

IMO, no one will notice... I never have.

Mine don't have a liner.

You should go with what you like - it's your wedding. I've learned that no matter what you do someone will be unhappy so just do what you want!

if it bothers you that much, can they make a custom liner for you? maybe your invite lady can do this for you if she does custom work?

oh --have you looked into invites by cranes?

Just wanted to let you know that if you decide that you do need lined inner envelopes, check out Invitations by Dawn. www.invitationsbydawn.com

I ordered lined inner envelopes and outer envelopes separately because I needed them for my pocketfolds. They have different sizes and liner colors to choose from.

i had very formal invitations (engraved from a Scottish printing press) and they did not have a liner OR inner envelope. they were very Brittish and very simple.

This is actually the purpose of the tissue paper, I think, not the liner.

I actually thought the more formal invitations did not use a liner. I didn't use one, because I didn't really like the way it looked, but that is my preference. I think the invitation you chose will look nicer without the liner.

I had this exact same problem! So I went without the liner even though I worried and thought about it a lot. I also contemplated making one but knew it would look terrible if I tried it myself. Anyway, I'm glad we don't have one. After receiving invitations to everything from holiday to housewarming parties with lined envelopes- I think they can't be too formal or a wedding must have anyway

We used Cranes, and here's what we wound up with:

Note we had the calligrapher write each guests name personally on the invitation which people loved

Thanks ladies. I may end up using a wax seal. Who knows. I think I may be making something out of nothing.

BETH those are great invites!!!

Thanks! This post makes me laugh b.c I STILL think about it (how sad is that!) but I'm actually relieved after I saw that you are having the same issue. Trying to be formal as possible in some areas made me give up a lot of things I thought I wanted - hope I helped a little!

Yes you were very helpful. I am having a black tie wedding and have always associated certain details with a formal function such as liners and hand calligraphy over computer printing. I would like to set the tone for my wedding from the very beginning. IMO, when you skimp on certain things, it is noticed and it cheapens things and I DO care. I waited a long time for this time in my life. I only plan on doing it once and doing it right! What is important to some people, may not be important to others.
