Invites finally in/need advice!!
Hi ladies, so I need your opinion on something. My invites are boxed invitations, and I recently did the online postage calculator, and it said the postage on each would run me about $4 each. To save money, FH and I thought about hand delivering some to those close by, and mailing the rest. Do you think thats tacky? I had a few family members, who although didn't say it aloud, gave us the look like it was. Also, for my family members overseas, it would cost way more, and to save on shipping i thought about putting them in a flat rate box from the post office. I think since they're in a pretty nice mailer box to begin with it wouldn't be so bad. What do you guys think?

OMG those are beautiful!!!!! Where did you get those done??!!! I would love to know. I still need to order mine! (im slacking)As for the mailing thing maybe hand deliver the ones close by to people who are closer to you personally who you know wont mind. But personally i would just mail them. You dont wanna look like you spent all your money on the invites you cant mail them.

Overseas the flat rate box is fine.

you may not like my answer lol but i agree with your family on that one.. you already spent a ton on boxed invites so you might as well spend the money on the postage with it.. regardless of what type of invite it is, I just think it's nice to mail them to everyone.. my next door neighbor's invite is getting sent to her when I could easily knock on her door and give it to her, but I know it's the right thing to do to send it

$4 holy cow! It might be a little tacky to hand deliver it but I think people know that weddings are expensive and would understand why you did it. Realistically, once the wedding is said and done, no one is going to think back and be concerned about the way that you sent the invites. And for the boxes, those are fine!

$4 is a lot! But I agree with everyone here that you should mail them. Someone I work with (and no clue why she invited me, but she did) handed out all of her invitations to everyone we work with, and it came off as tacky. I do think though you can get away with hand delivering them to close friends and family because they would definitely be more understanding. If I came home and there was a pretty box with an invitation waiting for me, I don't think I would care if there was a stamp on it or not.

IDK but I dont find hand delivering them that tacky. I wouldnt find it weird someone handing me an invitation, so I guess thats why I wouldnt mind. I also wound love to hand deliver the gorgeous ones you picked out to see the excitement on their face opening it.

I hate to admit this, but I think that it might be a little tacky to hand deliver them. Knowing that it is a boxed invite, it wasn't going to be cheap to mail it. I know how it feels to feel like it's just easier to hand deliver, but it doesn't make a good impression on the people you're delivering it to. My aunt and her husband, my grandparents, my cousin and his wife, and my two younger cousins all live in the same 2 family house. That's 5 invitations to one household. I'd LOVE to just bring them all over since I go there once a week anyway, but I don't want to insult them.

Thank you guys for your honesty! I talked it over with my FH, and we decided to do what we planned originally, and that is to mail the majority, and give the rest to our close friends and family when we see them/hand deliver. In the beginning, we didn't mind the postage, but we are no longer in that position since we went over on almost everything budget wise. Those who we plan to hand them to are not the type to get offended, or care if we don't mail them, which is a relief. In the end this is what works best for us, and saves us a couple hundred dollars, as opposed to paying almost $500 to mail them all out, not including the rsvp postage. I promised FH I'd find a way to cut costs somehow. This is a way to do that, and changing our rehearsal dinner from another venue, to a more reasonable one called Novita. Thanks again for the input everyone! They are much appreciated!

I'm actually excited about this part!! It took so much time and effort to get these right, so I'd love to see their reaction!

this exactly. i knew when i ordered square invites it would cost more to mail then if i did 5x7 but I knew what I was getting into when I purchased them. 100% mail them all individually to each guest.

I agree. I honestly would look at my friend like they are nuts for wasting the money on the postage if they normally see me, be it at work, the gym, family function etc. The important thing is the invite. Who cares how it's delivered??? And if they do care, watch out, because they are going to knit pick the heck out of your wedding. You can't please everyone.
