Invites/Guest Count Freakout

Ok, I'm not gonna lie...I'm kinda starting to freak out now.

I've been incredibly composed throughout the entire wedding process, and keep in mind we're doing this all from out of state (we live in FL, wedding is in NY).

We were originally going to send out invites on 7/7. Now, my mom is FREAKING OUT and SCREAMING her head off at me that this is 'too late' She demands that we send the invites out to 'her' guests sooner...like 6/15 the latest!

Anyway, we're gonna comply, just because I have enough $hit to deal with right now, and don't need any more!

Here's the thing...we paid Oheka up front for 125 guests. This is the # we guaranteed them. We are inviting 209, which both FH and I think is ludicrous to begin with.

Now, I'm freaking out that we're gonna have too many guests!!! I can't get this fear outta my head. I really cant.

I'm hoping that Thursday night makes it inconvenient for some people...especially OOT's that need to cut their work week short, pay for fights, accomodations, etc.

UGHHHHH....I just know that this stress is going to get to me, especially since invites are going out (Mom's people, not ours or FIL's guests) right before I start midterms!

What were your final numbers? Were you surprised? Was it more/less than you anticipated?

Since most of our guests are OOT, it looks like we are getting a return rate between 65 and 70% for yeses

We invited 170, and I think our final will be around 115 ( still waiting on a few)

With 209, I'd guess you'd end up with around 150?

I only want 100 guests....we are inviting 145

This is why Im not sending my invites out until end of june

RSVP is July 21st

my wedding is labor day weekend, so Im hoping that people will already have their labor day weekend plans set by the time my invites go out, so they will cancel lol

I think you have thursday on your side, butttt from what people have told me, the people you least expect to come might surprise you and end up coming

i would talk to your mom about this...do you have your invites? you could always lie and tell her that you didnt get your invites yet,that there was an issue w them so you are waiting to get them

I've tried. She is NUTS. There's no reasoning with her. She threw in my face that she is paying for half this wedding and that its absurd that we won't honor her request.

I'm SO scared that if people get them too early, they'll re-arrange their plans to be there, and I SO don't want that!

My mom feels like September is a popular travel month, so she wants people to get these invites before they've had time to get their travel plans underway.

I'm just freaked out by how huge our guest list turned out to be. I was hoping for a guest list of about 150-175 and a final count of 125.

We have some $ in the budget to account for some extra guests, but not too many.

Not to mention that I happen to have chosen a ridiculously amazingly absolutely breath-taking cake that costs insane amounts of $. Needless to say, if we're gonna need to start cutting corners, my cake will be the first thing on the chopping block and both my Mom and FH know how much the cake means to me.....

I'm just praying people can't afford it. And I'm hoping once they see what Oheka looks like they feel pressured into bringing a heftier gift, and THEN realize they can't afford it!! Anything will do at this point LOL

Yeah.....if she wants to send them early, there's not much you can do

Can you cut the guest list to about 180/190?

We guaranteed 250. And thats how much I want but it seems we will be around 280. I avoided sending out std thinking ppl would make plans for labor day but apparently everyone already had our date in mind

Don't even make me open up that can of worms. Seriously! My mom is one of those people that feel the need to invite everyone and anyone they've ever come into contact with!

This has been one of the most miserable parts of planning...I honestly just want to bang my head against the wall.

We didn't send out STDs either. My mom is using this as leverage now. She claims that had we sent out STDs, we woulld be able to send them out on 7/7 as planned, but because we opted against it, we need to give people more notice. I seriously hope OhekA on a Thursday scares people off.

Fmil only invited 1 person and my mom invited her aunt and 3 cousins. We are oaying and have enough friends and family to invite. So both sets of oarents were not allowed to invite anyone.

I would like to thank my 22 aunts and uncles and fh,s 17 aunts and.uncles for making us broke and taking up half the guest lust.

we invited aprox 215 and will have a final number of 165 total.... I dont know how realistic 125 would be since you are inviting over 200..I think you will be closer to 140-150.

Trust me, I'm praying for tons of NOs....

Again, our wedding is on a Thursday at 7:00pm....I'm really hoping that scares some people off, especially with these tough economic times. I'm hoping that a lot of people can't afford to take the time off, since it makes sense to just make s long weekend out of the whole thing.

We got married on a Thursday. We invited 430 and ended up right at our minimum of 140. We even needed seat fillers to get to that. With a Thursday it could really go either way!
