Is it rude not to invite people from the workplace, even if you've worked with them for a few years?

Re: Inviting Co-workers
No not at all . .. I would just be careful. For example I am a math teacher. I am friends with the majority of my department. At that point it is an all or nothing. I am inviting my entire departmen even the new teacher this year. I would feel rude otherwise. So if you dediced to invite one or two close people that is fine....just don't invite everyone but a few people.

I think it depends on how large or small your work place is....I work in a huge place so it would be impossible to invite everyone. I am inviting the few girls that I go out with outside the office. If I was in a smaller office and got along with everyone I would probably invite them all.
I also tend to say we are having an extremly small wedding when people ask about it. Hopefully no feelings will be hurt if they don't get an invite

FH is inviting his co-workers, but I'm probably not inviting mine. I don't mix work with outside-of-work.

My thoughts exactly. It was even awkward inviting them to the baby shower, but I did it under pressure from FH. I tend to leave work at work and home is personal and intimate to me.

Funny, I'm a math teacher too, and my work friends do not include anyone from my dept. And I feel awkward not inviting my dept, but at the same time I don't ever see them outside of work. I think being a teacher, it's easier to tell the difference between friends and colleagues because of summer break....if we don't see eachother over the summer, then we're not friends.

ok, how do you invite the entire office, except one, who asks if they're being invited? that's hilarious..

In that case I would not invite them!

Re: Inviting Co-workers
So...I was worried about this too. I just started working at my job in April but we're all pretty close. My best friend works with us too... so everyone knows about my wedding. I think I've come to the decision that I will only invite my boss...my best friend is a BM...so it'll just be the two of them. I don't like when worlds collide and I prefer to have an amazing time without worrying about anything.

Re: Inviting Co-workers
I just started a new job in June and even though I work for a huge company I work for a small department. They are really close though so I have to see how the relationships develop by next year.

I have this same issue - i'm starting to get really close to some of the girls that i work with and then there are some that i feel bad leaving out if i invite the ones i'm close with! i dont know how to figure out who to invite then and who not too... yuck - stupid new job! :)

Re: Inviting Co-workers
I think its fine, its one thing to invite one person from work, but inviting no one is the best way to go bc sometimes it gets out of hand with inviting work people. Like, when you invite one person you have to invite another and so worth.

Re: Inviting Co-workers
I'm inviting everyone from my office, however my office consists of only like 10 or so people. And I don't think it's rude if you don't invite anyone from your office, especially if you invited them to something previously and no one came...

Re: Inviting Co-workers
We have 110 people in our office, so that wouldn't be possible. I am just inviting our management team and a few others. FH is only inviting a few people from his office. No, I don't think it's rude - it depends on your relationship with them. Just make sure you don't talk to them about your wedding and all the details because then it's kind of like throwing it in their face. I don't talk to it about anyone in the office that I am not inviting unless they bring it up. That part is never easy - who to invite or not invite. JMO. Good Luck.

Re: Inviting Co-workers
i work in a small department (we are a 5 person department) so i will just invite them all. But when i worked at larger companies i probably would have just either invited who i was closest with or no one at all

I'm inviting my manager, assistant manager and one outside sales person. I am not inviting the warehouse or one of the inside people.

Re: Inviting Co-workers
I work at a small office - 17 ppl. and had the same reservations. by my country's custom u invite everybody, but then I am not close to anyone here xpt the 4 women. so I am only inviting them. feels awkward cause its so foreign to me but I barely speak to anyone other than them so I decided to go by which ppl I talk more than 'good morning' to which is the 4 w/spouses

I am only inviting the ones that i am close to which are 5, whereas FH is inviting just about half of the Town of Hempstead employees
