Inviting married people that you aren't close with...
Come ON - I never met their spouse, we hardly know them but are inviting the single person as a nicety because we work with them - everyone inviting their coworkers is inviting their spouses too?
we would never be able to fit all those people in!!!
Am I alone with this???

No, you don't have to invite their spouses. We've had 2 weddings here at work recently where a lot of co-workers were invited but the SOs weren't.

Phew - Cindy - please do me a favor and read my other post - 'spin off to but she's not invited' and tell me what you think - these ladies are making me so nervous!!!

That's strange. I wouldn't go to a wedding if I was invited but FH was not. That's just me. I know it's okay for holiday office parties but I never heard of that being done at a wedding. But it's your special day, so that entitles you to do whatever you please!

I didn't know any of my coworkers spouses, but invited them all. A wedding is an intimate affair where people go to celebrate and have a good time, who wants to party alone? I just thought it was the proper thing to do. I would not like to be invited to a wedding without my husband. It would be kinda boring unless it was a family wedding and I knew everyone. But co workers aren't going to know that many people.

Honestly, I wanted to do this. FH blew a gasket. He said he would NEVER RSVP yes to a wedding if he couldn't bring me. I told him that the people I work with all know how little $$ I make and would totally understand. I even asked a few how they would feel, and they all said it's my day and they just want to share it, and if that meant leaving DH at home they would do it.
That said, in my heart I really agree with FH. It's not fair to ask one half of a married couple to come to a wedding alone. Therefore, instead of including 10 people from work, I'm only inviting 4 (2 of whom are single).

Sorry....I don't think it's right to invite someone without their spouse. I guess I could understand not including boyfriends or girlfriends, but I think it's a definite no-no to leave a spouse off an invitation...
Edited for spelling.

I responded on your other post-- then just don't invite co-workers-- we didn't. If you are friends with one of them-- fine- but don't invite them just cause you work with them.

I feel the same way....Even if you do just invite the singles, I think that it will be assumed by most that there spouses will attend....

I would be extremely insulted if either DH or I was invited to a wedding solo. Needless to say, neither of us would attend. Actually, I wouldn't even send a gift either. Here's why: I'm supposed to celebrate someone's marriage who doesn't even respect my marriage?

Re: Inviting married people that you aren't close with...
I am inviting and guest for all....
A girl I work with did that (didn't invite a spouse) and that person wasn't too happy just b/c she worked with her (especially when she saw all the other people with their spouses)
IMO, I wouldn't attend if my fH couldn't go. but if it's an issue of money/cost, do what works for you..you know how your guests will feel!

I invited their spouses. I would not go to a wedding if I was not allowed to bring a guest. JMHO

I agree too. I can understand not inviting a guest for a single person. But once you are married, you become kind of like one person, everywhere one goes the other should be there too. I think it's the right thing to do to invite the spouse.

I invited some co-workers to my wedding with their husbands, even though I never met them.

Re: Inviting married people that you aren't close with...
I did invite spouses and for my friends that live far away, I invited them with a guest even if they were single. I figure it's more likely they will want to come if they can bring a date or their spouse. It's hard going to a wedding alone when you don't know that many people there.
ETA: I think spouses/ long time SO's are a must, but guests for single friends is not necessary. We did it, but I don't think you have to.

Re: Inviting married people that you aren't close with...
my rule was if you are married, engaged, or are living with your significant other then they are invited to the wedding. but if it's just your boyfriend or girlfriend, they just got solo invites. i agree with the other girls, if I got an invite to a wedding and FH wasn't invited, I would be very insulted and probably decline the invite.

Re: Inviting married people that you aren't close with...
I spoke to my coworkers at work a while back about this - there are about 6 of them - and they knew right away that they were being invited solo... a coworker who knows she will be getting engaged soon told me she was relieved I was doing this, because she may have to do the same with us. They will all sit together and have a great time, the way we do when we go to any company party together.
When my coworker invites me solo, I'm going.
FH is inviting former coworkers - all guys, without their wives - we just don't have the room for their wives - and they are all going, will all sit together and drink and have a good time. The wives are cool with it.
If FH was invited by someone I didn't know, and it was understood they had limited seats, and he wanted to go, I would NEVER feel the sanctity of our marriage was disrespected - I would make some plans with my girlfriends, curl up with a good book, and tell him to have a good time - I'm pretty laid back about things like that. It's a party for god's sake. I don't know the people, I wouldn't be insulted...
I DID decide to invite the 2 women with their husbands because they will sit with Joe and his GF, and not know too many other people the way our coworkers will know each other. But as for the rest of our coworkers, I don't think they will be so uptight about it - we all work in a human-related field, and all know each others situations pretty well... I think its all good...
