Inviting married people that you aren't close with...

Original post by lipglossjunky73

Come ON - I never met their spouse, we hardly know them but are inviting the single person as a nicety because we work with them - everyone inviting their coworkers is inviting their spouses too?

we would never be able to fit all those people in!!!

Am I alone with this???

I would be extremely insulted if either DH or I was invited to a wedding solo. Needless to say, neither of us would attend. Actually, I wouldn't even send a gift either. Here's why: I'm supposed to celebrate someone's marriage who doesn't even respect my marriage?

that's a really good point.

You really have a different situation. You invited co-workers w/o their spouse, and now 1 has asked you if she can bring her spouse. so clearly this person is not ok with coming w/o her spouse.

In this case, I do think it would be rude to tell her no. she is married, and telling someone you can't bring a spouse is offensive, in my opinion.

If you were inviting a bunch of co-workers that are totally ok with coming single, they wouldn't have asked if they can bring their spouses.

so the ques is not can you invite people w/o their spouse, it's can you say no to someone who wants to bring their spouse? and I think that you cannot do that w/o being offensive.

Sorry!!

I personally wound up inviting everyone with a guest. I work in a rather large office, but in the past someone who I worked with didn't invite anyone from work to the wedding but had a party with the office at a separate time.
