Is $250 too much for a BM dress?

Original post by beachbum05

Honest opinions....is that a lot to ask of my BM's?

I found a dress I LOVE, but I feel like it might be too much...

I don't want anyone going to the poor house over my wedding!

(PS - I asked one of my BM's and she - of course - said no....but I know they wouldn't tell me if it was)

i agree that it is on the pricey end. Alterations can be at least another $50. and while you can put $ towards it for their BM gifts....i personally would rather give them a gift thanking them (something that they could use) rather then something to use for 'my' wedding. i do think even by talking to your girls, they will prob still say it is not a prob(i mean, they want u to be happy it's your wedding of course), so i would just try to think about what you already know about them and their $ situation. if you think it may be a prob. then try and find something else. there are TONS of gorgeous dresses out there!

That is what we spent for my sisiters wedding, I dont think its to much, plus you are the bride if you love it and they say they will spend it then it should be all good

i just saw that dress in a magainze this mornig. i love it., i do think 250 is on the high side, but i would pay it. i also agree its important if they can wear it again.

I feel it's too much because that does not include any alterations..!

I think it's too much. I like the dress a lot and think they can or may wear it again, but it's still too much. What if one of two of your BMs don't like the dress and won't wear it again? Also take into consideration that, yes they are your very close friends and know that when you asked them to be a BM and they said yes and knew of the financial obligation, but they will also have a lot of other things they will be paying for on top of all their own personal finances.

Honestly I think it's a little much....because also you have to factor in alterations if necessary and any other accessories or shoes you want. You can find alot of gorgeous dresses for less than that Bon. Have you tried doing the gown search on theknot.com, you can search by price, there's lots of pretty gowns on there, here's the link...

I don't think it's too much that seems to be the norm when I went looking. Maybe ask your bm's what their cut off is instead this way you can get a more accurate account of what people are able to spend.

If your girls don't mind and have the money then thats fine but dont forget it wont end up being 250 after tax and alterations. My bm dresses were and after tax it was 203 and then with alterations it can go as high as $278. Soo There dresses will be high after all t 300'2 if not even hitting $400
