For an Officiant? I was quoted $850 if I book this year and $1000 if I book next year.

i'd say that's a lot. i think the avg is $400-$500. are you having a special ceremony that's warranting the large fee?

I think that is too much! I am paying 500 or 600 for the church and I think that is insane.

Does that include a site fee or something? That is way high. Mine was $300 for a retired judge to do a secular wedding at the RH.

I don't necessarily think it's too much. This is your WEDDING...not your reception. How much money do you spend on things that are truly secondary--food, flowers, cry packs...
I understand that we all work within a budget, but I'm always surprised that people spend thousands on everything else and are afraid to spend money on what's the most important part of the whole thing--your wedding.
That said, look around and see what you like. We've spent more on somethings than we initially thought and less on others. We spent more than we thought we would on an officiant because we knew she would make our wedding, the most important ceremony of our life, a reflection of us. To us it was well worth it. You may find an officiant for less money that fits your needs and is less expensive...but I think that making your actual wedding (not your reception) special is well worth skimming some money off the chocolate fountain fund

Re: Is $850 to much?
that is what we paid for my daughters wedding times two since we both a rabbi and a priest. Many times if they don't have their own congregation they charge more since they don't get paid separately from the church or temple. It is high but if you like the officiant I would go with it. IMO the ceremony is the most important part of the wedding and you want it to be with someone you can relate to. Good luck

Re: Is $850 to much?
is it more money then the 'avg' on here yes.. but if you like that person its worth it.. the ceremony and officiant MAKE the wedding real, legal and memorable its the whole reason for the expensive party.. id pay any amount of money for a great officiant ... luckily i didnt have to b/c pastor april was completely resonable $wise
