Re: Is a DOC really necessary??? ( to past brides)
not really but I had an issue with my florist delivery guy. My Bridal Attendant approached me as soon as we got to the RH that my flowers weren't delivered..
she was incorrect - the florist delivery guy had partially delivered the centerpieces to another section of my RH and the maitre-d mistakenly assumed I only had 3 tables with CPs and the others would be empty. My DOC knew this was wrong and went to bat for me right away, and searched the whole kitchen for the missing CPs and found them! If she wasn't there, I honestly would have had a nervous breakdown and assumed my florist screwed up big time.
So I think a DOC really helped with that situation - plus she was watching my other vendors like a hawk to make sure they were doing their jobs (ie i kept seeing our video guy sneaking out of the room and mysteriously disappearing and she would chase him down to make sure he was present when i cut the cake!).
stuff like that makes it nice to have a DOC around.

Lol, those issues make me feel like it is imperative to have a DOC. I would have been crying my eyes out about flowers if they were 'missing'

i didnt have a DOC and i really dont feel that it was necessary. everything went smooth... no snafu's or anything. even if i did have a DOC i would feel like i would have to be the one to handle the situation for it to be taken care of the way i would want it to be handled. but, thats just me....

i had two. originally i wasnt sure if i wanted one, but i'm a worry-er, so FH and i decided it was a good idea. i would say they were my favorite vendor aside from my photographer. we used a modern day affair, they're vendors here, and laura and nicole were amazing. i had people complimenting us on how wonderful they were. if you can, i highly recommend looking into them, they were amazing and i can not sing their praises enough.

This is totally what I was thinking.

Re: Is a DOC really necessary??? ( to past brides)
I have been trying to make the decision of whether or not have a DOC. I spoke with alot of my friends and family who have been married and I realized that for me I think that I need a DOC.
My FSIL said it to me best.... If you can fit it in your budget I would recommend it. Although you hope that there are no issues but it is nice to know that you have somewhere there to take care of any issues if they do come up.
I look at it like insurance. You have insurance even if you do not get into an accident. You just want to make sure you have it in case you have an accident.
Now I am in the process of making the final decisions about which one I want to go with! I have met with a lot of really great people! (which always makes the decision harder)

I think having a DOC is 100% necessary. Mine was literally a life savior. Everything went smooth, but it was SOOOOOOOOO good not to have to think about coordinating anything, or running around after people, or dealing with vendors. I really think its 10000000% needed. Made my wedding a million % more enjoyable. Even if you're an organization freak (like me)...you want to enjoy your wedding day, not deal with vendors, family or glitches.

Re: Is a DOC really necessary??? ( to past brides)
My expereince makes me confident to say that a DOC is NOT really necessary. For me, my wedding day was so personal....I was surrounded by my parents, BMs, and aunt while I was getting ready. We had a well-oiled timeline (with special thanks to my amazing hair and makeup team)...the limo drivers were on a well-oiled timeline (pick guys up...get them to church...pick up bride and BMs, etc) and they were on the button. I think it all depends on your ability to organize, your desired level of control and how personal you want your wedding day to be.
One of my best friends got married last June and she had both a wedding planner AND a DOC on hand for her wedding day. She LOVED her experience. For me, it was WAY too much - it was overbearing (although her Day of crew was LOVELY...it was just too much for me).
In terms of your key word being 'NECESSARY'...I say DEF NOT. I enjoyed planning every angle and part of that was assigning point ppl (our best man had all of the cash tips and it was his job to make sure they were distributed...) My BMs helped a LOT with getting ready things, etc.
It is totally up to you, but def not necessary!

i didn't have a DOC and am happy i didn't shell out the money for one.
I was very calm on the day of my wedding and didn't worry about anything going wrong (and if it did go wrong, i didn't care that much) ... but if you need perfection, it might be worthwhile for you.

Just as a follow up to sum it up - I didn't have one and I didn't have a care in the world the day of my wedding! Everything went off without a hitch!

I had one, and looking back, I do not think I needed one. she was helpful in packing up and handing out tips but my RH was so on top of things that I would have been no worse off if I did not have one.

my DOC was amazing. we had a few minor issues which she handled instead of me having to be stressed over it. she was so helpful to all of my wedding party and families on the day of. I think that while you can do without a DOC, they definitely make the day a lot more stress free and you just have nothing to worry about except walking down that aisle!

I don't think a DOC is necessary but I sure am glad I had one. I definitely feel like my day ran more smoothly because of her.

I couldn't have gotten through my day without her
I agree 100%.
My mom was awaiting a kidney transplant (she had it one month later) on the day of our wedding. My parents are divorced and *extremely* awkward around each other, not to mention the step parents. DH's parents are extremely shy and from OOT.
My DOC was amazing. Everything I would've been asking my mom to help me with, my DOC did, but better! I had zero stress (and I am the kind who constantly worries that everyone is having a good time and all the details are taken care of) and could count on her completely. It was the best feeling and truly made our wedding day even more special.
I used Ryan from Above & Beyond Events. She even gave us a discount because my father is retired from the NYPD! She's also a LIW vendor.
We had her come to our rehearsal at the hotel the night before which was PERFECT because all the above-mentioned somewhat 'difficult' people got to know her before the wedding, so on the wedding day, they were totally comfortable with her which helped enormously! Any details or problems, everyone knew to go straight to Ryan and NOT to me!!! Which was great because I totally would've been so distracted from enjoying myself if I'd had to deal with these things.
We accidentally left our marriage license at the hotel and Ryan went back lickity split and got it and there was absolutely no delay. When the DJ asked for the balance mid-reception, Ryan paid him before I even found out! When the wedding was over, Ryan was the one helping my step father load all the stuff into the car so DH and I could head back to the hotel ourselves without a care in the world. Even in the middle of the wedding, Ryan was the one with a plate of goodies perfect for me and DH (we have pretty specific diets, as far as allergies and preferences go) whereas the bridal attendant would've practically poisoned each of us! She had our beverages of choice on hand the entire time so we wouldn't get dehydrated, totally looking out for us. She even helped entertain DH's niece and nephew during the reception so his family could get on the floor and dance.
If you're on the fence, but think any of these issues may happen to you, I highly recommend giving Ryan a call just to see what she thinks. She'll be honest if you need her services or not. But I promise, you will not feel like a penny was wasted if you hire her.
