Do you think having the rehearsal dinner at my parents house cheap??? We are trying to save where we can, so we decided to do it at my parents. Please tell me this isn't a bad idea.....!!!

I think that's a fine idea! Will it add any stress, though? that's the only part I would be concerned about, becaus emy mom would be freaking out, planning that the day before the wedding, and then cleaning up. If that's not the case, then definitely go for it!

not at all!! we had our RD at a restaurant, but only because DHs parents were paying for it, and wanted to take people out.... but my shower was at my aunts house- and i can't tell you how many cmopliments were given about how nice and laid back and comfortable it was.... at home parties really are nice- espeically for wedding related stuff- the wedding itself will be formal enough, keep the other stuff more laid back. and i'll bet you could find a caterer if noone feel like cooking- my mom found a great caterer for my shower that came to the house before to set stuff up, and came after the party was done to take it all down....

We has our RD at my mom's house & had it catered. It was a wonderful, intimate and relaxing evening!
ETA: We had soooo much fun. Only about 25 people but still wasn't cheap. It was wonderfully catered & served. They cleaned up and baked fresh cookies while there. Food was about $900 (I think) with the tip and about $300 for alcohol which mom & stepdad picked up & we paid for.

Absolutely not! It's only a rehearsal, plus, you are already putting down money for attendants gifts, favors, etc! I was planning on doing the same, and catering it myself!

Not at all!!!! Thats exactly what I would have done had my parents not been divorced and hate each other - had to have a restaurant as neutral territory.

Not at all!!! FH & I wanted to have ours at his parents house but, unfortuantely, their house is too far from the church. Plus it is a Wed. night so we don't want the BP from Staten Island to be traveling all night when most of them have work the next day! If we could, we would!!

I wish I could do this! I just don't want to ask my parents to host the night before our wedding. I know how stessed and anxious my mom will be w/o having guests over! We have a HUGE BP, so we're also looking to save $. East Wind actually gave us a great rate, but I am very upset w/ the way I've been treated there so far (see post) that I'm considering taking the RD somewhere else.

Cheap! Are you crazy, I think it is a great idea. When we get up to that part I am going to ask my FI if we can do this. We all have to save any way we can.

Just to add since I saw the post...A RD at your parents is such a nice idea. it is so much more personal that way. I love it!!! Sounds fun! Great choice

We had our engagement party at my parents house and had it catered. It was such a fun, relaxing night. There is nothing 'cheap' about it. It's more informal, casual, and fun! That's what I'm all about!

If you can afford to do it, then you do it
If you wanna save then do your parents house
You can totally make it nice!! I dont think it is cheap at all!
My friend did it for her wedding and it was great.
