Is a Rehearsal Dinner required???

FH and I have been going back and forth on this one. Because we are paying for this whole wedding by ourselves, and I totally understand his wanting to save money (oh, b/c we'd pay for the rehearsal dinner ourselves), but I think we need one and he doesn't.

I think that it's a nice thing to have especially if your BP is coming from out of town. My sister is just having a Bar-b-que in our parent's backyard. I think it will be just as much fun as having it in a restaurant, but it will also be a lot cheaper.

No it isn't. In fact most Jews don't have a dinner or even a rehearsal.

I had pizza and soda in my hotel suit for anyone who wanted it, but that was about it.

If you can't afford it, well then you just can't afford it. Bring some snacks to the rehearsal so no one gets to hungry and you'll be fine.

Yeah I don't think that you have to do anything big. My brother had the rehearsal and then had everyone back at his house for dinner. Nothing big.

obviously most people do it...but that doesnt mean it has to be in a restaurant....you can keep it very low budget....

I don't think it's necessary, but it's a nice way to spend time with family and friends right before the wedding. Your wedding is going to be very hectic and you won't really be able to spend quality time with those people. Even if it's just a very informal pizza party, you'll probably be glad you had it.
