hmm, well if you are in that situation then i guess it's not the end of the world-- meaning, if you didn't have a house already you would be screwing yourself but since you already do then the money will just go towards paying off the card. i mean, most people put the money towards a house but you already have that so you should be OK.
just do the best you can and don't get yourself in too deep

As I see it... you've got the house, you are going to have your big day.... don't sweat it - you will eventually pay it off!

Re: is anyone
Don't stress!!! Just try to be savy....use a card with a low rate (I made FH open an account when he got an offer in the mail of 0% until February 2008- which is 5 months after our wedding!!).
There's good debt & bad debt.....good debt- buying a house or car, or paying for the wedding of your dreams....bad debt- having a bad day and going on a $20,000 shopping spree!!!

Can your parents adopt me????
We have a house already too, but we're paying for the wedding by ourselves....so we're trying to save as much as we can but if we have to charge, we'll charge, with a mortgage it's just not as easy to save.

Re: is anyone
we didnt want to charge....but now as time gets closer $$ is just flying out of our account so it looks like we will be charging and paying off as soon as we get married! I know we could prob borrow from family but i really dont want to depend on ppl!

Re: is anyone
if you can do it, go for it. just make sure it doesn't get TOO out of control - stay within a planned budget and make sure you're not charging more than you can get money for.
we're personally probably going to pay as we go and not charge anything. i don't have any credit cards and he only has 2 with VERY small student limits on them (from college). i just really hate the idea of owing people money, even if i have it, you know?

Re: is anyone
Maybe look into a home equity loan. The rates are usually lower than credit cards (unless you can find a 0% one) and you can deduct the interest from your taxes.

Re: is anyone
My parents are paying for the reception hall, FH's parents are paying for the dj, limos, flowers and rehearsal dinner. I am paying for the photographer by myself, which is about $6k. I am also paying for my dress about $2k including /tiara & veil & alterations, also paying for invitations, church and whatever else is left. FH & I will also have to pay for our honeymoon and rings. I too will have to put some on my credit card. I hate it but what can I say. I was in a lot of debt one time and don't want that to happen again. I also own a condo but it is not big enough to raise a family. At least you own a home and don't have to worry about that. I still will need to buy a bigger place after I am married.
All I can suggest is to make sure you pay more than the monthly minimum b/c most of that goes towards interest.
Hope that helps.

Re: is anyone
Just make sure you get your mileage. I'm chargeing all the big items so I can get my mileage. Meanwhile I'm saving money in my checking account so that I have money to pay the credit card bill.

If you don't have a Chase credit card already, look into opening one of their cards with no interest on purchases for a set amount of months. This way, if you have to charge, you won't be paying interest. This is what we are doing for the honeymoon. I opened an account with them and got no interest on purchases until Nov 2007.
