Is anyone else feeling guilty about their parents paying for stuff? I always thought that I would have to pay for my wedding, but as soon as I got engaged my parents started offering to pay for so many things. They are paying for the reception, AND want to have an engagement party for us. I am soooo lucky they are offering this, but I am feeling guilty about accepting it. I know it makes them happy because my mom is always saying how she didn't have a 'real'wedding (she got married at a friend's house) and regrets it. But still.... its soooooo much money.

Don't Feel GUILTY! They're offering! Be ecstatic that they have the opportunity to do this for you! It might ease your mind if you ask for a max $ amount to be spent by them so you don't feel like you went overboard. Other than that - ENJOY! I'm sure they know you're very grateful!

I agree with everyone else. Most parents want you to have the best. Take whatever they give and say Thank you with a smile. (That's what I do!)

i'm sure that they want to do it for you, that is why they are offering. i know how you feel though, my parents had their reception in my mom's parents house. but 31 years later, they are still together. just enjoy it and let them be involved.

Thanks everyone! My mom loves all this wedding stuff, she is having a blast, I guess she's sort of living it through me. My FIL's told FH that they are worried that we think they are cheap because they aren't giving as much as my parents are. I told him thats crazy, we're so lucky that both of our parents are willing to give us money!

I don't feel guilty...I am just being a hell of a lot nicer to my Mom (I still live at home) I tend to be a spoiled brat...I am the only girl.
I am so honored that my Mom has set aside $$$ for me and I hope to do it for my daughter (God willing I have atleast 1) someday
I think my FI feels guilty or weird in some way though

Dont feel bad -- Let them know how happy your are and share everything with your mother - My parents are doing everything for us too....an E-party - my B-shower - the hall everything - the only thing that we have to do ourselves is out photos and Dj. Every mother wants to give there daughter what they didnt have thats part of the joy in being a mother so just let her trust me they wouldnt do it if they didnt want to ....or if they were unhappy about what you were doing!

I wouldn't feel guilty. I agree with everyone else's posts. Just make sure you let them know how much you appreciate them... and have a great time!! You are truly lucky!
