We are getting so frustrated trying to find a house. NY is so expensive. I don't mind living here but DH hates NY. just for kicks the other day i went on realtor.com to check out prices in Charlotte, NC.. wow ! you have to see what kind of house you can get for $400K. this one house in particular looks like a mansion. last night DH was talking to an old friend who moved to NC. he said he pays only $1k in taxes a year also, he said Charlotte is booming with jobs in almost in every industry. Heard alot of New Yorkers relocated to NC. DH said he doesn't know if he can deal with the heat. his friend says it can reach 103 degrees. doesn't bother me.
of course, i don't know if i can leave my family & friends behind. maybe i can convince them all to move

FH and I are moving to Charleston, SC! Our lease actually starts tomorrow in our apartment... FH is moving in tomorrow, but i've got so much wedding stuff going on that i'm not moving down until July 1st. It's absolutely beautiful down there! The rent is so cheap, and our 2 bed 2 bath apartment is amazing... I love it! We would be paying at least triple the price for it in NY!

I'm already gone lol. DH and I moved to Philly. Its a good compromise b/c Center City Philly is alot like NYC just on a smaller scale, and its only 1 1/2 hours driving to NY (we're actually leaving in an hour to come back). The cost of living is less however, the salaries are comparable. I feel like i'll get more for my $$.
Perhaps, i'm comfortable with moving away from my family b/c I went to university out of state and stayed after graduation for longer. I just cant do NY property prices.

we are thinking about it - we are in fl now looking at a house that we might put an offer on tomorrow - my parents are here, its cheaper to live, we can have a better quality of life here - just will be sad to leave our friends, jobs and FHs family.....my FH can transfer to a office down here and keep salary so that makes it a no brainer for us - but if it weren't for that it would be hard to find jobs that pay on the same scale....i just hope if and when we do leave (because there is no way we are staying) that we like it - its scary - i think moving anywhere from the tri-state area it different and slower paced....but hopefully that is something we can adjust too

we left long island last november- we moved upstate- only about an hour and half away but the housing costs and the taxes are way better here!! everything costs less up here-

we moved to FL 2 years ago....you get used to the heat very quick and honestly, your not in it unless you choose to be or your walking from the ac at home to the ac in hte car to the ac at work or ac out shopping and back.....
its nice to not have snow and homes are around 200K cheaper

We think about it all the time. My friend lives in hilton head SC and we have visited down there and love it. If things don't change in about 1-2 years will definetly move down there

My cousin bought a huge 4 bedroom house right outside of Charlotte for $220K. She has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a bonus room, big kitchen, living room, dining room and a den. IT's HUGE!! and new construction. She pays nothing in taxes and has a nice yard.
The area is great...DH and I have considered it and will probably think seriously about it in the future.

My sister lives in concord, which is half hour away from charlotte. It is BEAUTIFUL!! and the houses are so reasonable. If you both can agree to move you should definately look in that areas!

I cant wait to get the hell out of New York..but, both FH and I work for the city so we are stuck here, at least until i retire in 14 years.

We are moving ASAP! We can't afford it here. Its crazy. We just don't want to move too far away that its difficult to visit family and them t visit up. We want our kids to grow up w/ family around.

You could always move there and if you dont like it you could just move back, nothing wrong with trying it out.
Thats the problem though - you really can't. Especially if you bought a place. The prices of real estate in NY are so high that if you sell your NY place, move somewhere cheaper...and then decide you want to move back, it would be really difficult financially to come back. My parents had that problem when they moved to Florida. Thankfully, mom loves it now...but they realized that once they moved it had to be for good.
I personally don't think I could ever leave NY. We've moved so much we're done with it. And having a NY drivers license gives me a sense of pride that I just can't explain. So lame, I know - but so true!!! I love being a New Yorker and all of the positive/negative connotations that go with it!!!!

FH is from Portland OR and when deciding who was going to move where, I jumped at the chance to go out west. Although I miss my family terribly, we have a 4 bedroom 2.5 bath house that he bought for the same price I bought my studio co-op for. Not only is the cost of living cheaper, everyone outside of NY is so laid back. The quaility of life so much better. It's scares me to think about raising our kids in NY. Everything is so expensive.

We live upstate ny. It is way cheaper but there is not that much here! I would say to go to NC b/c its cheap and things around to do! Good luck.

We talk about it from time to time. I think it would be hard to be far from family though - even our jobs.
It's a tough decision. Cost of living IS cheaper out of here, but so is income and you don't always get as much. The schools and other services for children and adults (especially with disabilities) are a million times better in Nassau and Suffolk. As for now, we have to stay in our election district for FH, but after that... who knows! After the election, we are even considering Brooklyn or NYC so it will be easier on me since I can't drive.

I would love love love to move out of state, but FH will never do it. I hope he changes his mind when we start looking for houses and sees what we can afford in NY compared to what we can afford out of state!

FH and I talked about it...but all of our ties are here in NY.
I'm having a hard time dealing with moving from Queens to Suffolk...I can't even imagine having to leave the state...i'd be devasted. So we're staying and struggling in NY.
