Is anyone NOT anti-favors??

Is anyone NOT anti-favors??

I continuously see posts and threads pertaining to how not-worth-it favors are...How people always throw them away...

Well...I'm insulted by this kind of talk...I searched far and wide for what I felt was the perfect favor...And I'm spending a boat-load...(BOAT load of money) on them... I certainly hope my guests don't just say: 'I'm not taking this...' or go home and throw it out if they do take it...

Favors are a tradition. Sure, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do...But really...Even kids at kiddie parties get little favor bags...I know I always did...And I would NEVER not give out a little something to my guests or just assume that people aren't going to notice or care...A favor is a token from your wedding (or any other function)...A small way of saying thank you to your guests for being there...Honestly if I went to a wedding where a favor was not given out...I would absolutely notice and I would think the couple was cheap and didn't really care about their guests...

I actually find this insulting. I am doiong favors, just because I am making them, and it smuch cheaper to do than to buy somethnig. BUT, I would NEVER think twice about not gettin a favor...I go tot weddings because I know the couple and want to be there for them on their special day. They are already spending a BOAT load on the reception, etc itself, and if have to budget out favors, than I see nothing wrong with this AT ALL. I would never feel someone did not care about their guests if they did not get a favor, Besides,in most cases, I do nto like a lot of knick-knacks taking up room, so I give them away or put them in the yard sale or something...I would enver think the couple was cheap for not giving favors, I think thats a little harsh.

Just my opinion, I am back to work!

I love favors from parties and I LOVED my favors! I had mikasa candy dishes (and candy flowers) and all the homes I have been to since the wedding have had the favor displayed. However I will say that at a few of my friends/family homes, they didnt yet unwrap them because they said the looked too nice but they are on display that way!!!

I just went to another wedding and got 2 bottles (not full sized) of Red wine, DH and I were excited about that!
I have kept the candy wrappers from my nieces and nepews christenings or communions and I have small bud vases and lots of other stuff that I do really like!

I like the idea of giving a momento! However I dont know if I would notice if it wasnt given out! I think its just a personal and money thing! If you can do it great, if you cant no biggie!

I am not anti-favors - I put alot of thought into mine - I love recieving them at other peoples wedding - I save them and treasure them.
BUT - I wouldn't think a couple is cheap if they didn't give out favors.

What are you using as favors? I think the issue is that the reality is most people do tend to throw out the matchbooks and little plastic favors (I don't even know what to call them. But they have little people on it). I think that if you can think of a creative favor that people would actually use, then go ahead and do it. But, why waste $ on the little plastic favors if you know 9/10 times they're going to be thrown away. The little champagne bottles are cool, but I never know if I should drink it or save it. Honestly, I think that a thank you card with a sincere note to each person is more than enough to let them know that you appreciated they're presence. You're entertaining people for about 5 hours (not including ceremony). I know I typically don't take my friends out to $80-$120/pp lunches or dinners. But to each his/her own and I do think there are alot of nice favors out there, but at the same time I think that is one of the places that people could skim on their budget and it not really make a difference.

PS: If i do a favor, it's just going to be a piece of black cake wrapped in a nice box with a thank you note.

We have plenty of $$ -- but we didn't do favors. Has nothing to do with $.

To each his own but the last 3 weddings I went to were for over-35ers and no favors.

Every favor that I have ever gotten at a wedding I have no use for and eneded up throwing out or giving away. Thats why I did a donation, so the money is put to good use instead of ending up in the garbage. I am also giving out candy too for those that have to get something for themselves but I can gaurentee some people won't like that either. You can't please everyone so just do what you want!

I guess I fall into the cheap category as well! I've been to some weddings with favors and some without. When I don't get a favor, I've never noticed, and when I do, they honestly don't make much a difference to me. I've gotten maybe one useful one ever...most end up in the trash or stuffed in a drawer. Maybe it's b/c I've gone to mostly Jewish weddings and most Jewish weddings do not have favors, so I really don't expect it. That said, there is no way that anyone could have considered us cheap for the wedding reception we had!

I do not think you can judge how much someone cares about their guests by whether or not they have a favor. Last time I checked, there were a lot more important things that determined how much you care about someone.

I NEVER said they weren't worth it, if I had the $$we would have done them, but we were on such a tight budget! We felt that kind of $$ would be better spent elsewhere.....like a chocolate fountain that NO ONE forgot!

I'm sure yours are PERFECT!

ETA: I believe when you say 'tradition' it takes on a cultural thing....I 'believe' that Italians are big on the favors.....

I love to get favors.

OK OK....She is NOT trying to insult anyone! I personally know the family, and HIS parents are VERY ITALIAN and are insisting on her giving out a favor.

Sometimes people have their noses so far into the planning that us brides have NO other choice but to give in....this is BMD's case.

She is giving a VERY nice favor that isn't going to get thrown out.

I agree with julz-you cant please everyone. Do what you want. Favors also do not have to cost a lot of money to be nice. I think your guests will be happy with anything.

I think favors are a nice touch. Just like any other 'extra', they are not necessary, yet make things more personal and special.

I honestly think its more of a cultural thing.

I agree with Julz...This is why I am not doing favors....I have kept like 3 favors from weddings that someone gave something unique...I am doing a donation to the National Parkinson's Foundation because of two reasons...
1) My grandma suffered for 6 years with it...If you know someone that has or suffers from it, it is heartbreaking...There is ABSOLUTELY no cure for it & it is a terminal illness....I was there everyday until her last breath....So it is a little bit of a personal thing.
2) I feel they need $$ to research into this disease just as they did cancer & AIDS...They do not know what causes Parkinson's or if it is heridtary...So in my mind, I think they can put the $$ to more use...

I don't want to spend $$ & then have people throw it in the garbage....To me that is a waste...I don't feel people come to weddings just to get the favor & if that is the case, it is crazy!! This is JMO!!!

I agree, I think you should get a favor when you attend a wedding, no matter what it is.

Edited to say: Donations also make great favors.
