Re: Is anyone not giving a favor???
I WAS a jewish Bride 3 weeks ago. We didn't give out favors per se, BUT our hall took apart our centerpieces and gave those out ! We also had enough left over to SIL , MIL, mom, and us to take a centerpiece home.

I honestly don't know if I'm going to do favors, it just may not be in the budget. I wouldn't want to do it just because everyone does, I and think that your guests shouldn't be insulted if you don't - they are coming to your event for a nice dinner and great party, right. But I just don't know. Do you guys think guests will actually be insulted?

Re: Is anyone not giving a favor???
I am definitely giving a favor and I am not spending a ton of money on them thats for sure!
I went to a wedding last year - the couple was Jewish and they gave the chocolate bars with their names on it, and mints. They also had a cigar rolling area and they gave match books with their names on them too.

I keep going back and forth with this, I think in general yeah, some people would feel a little offended, for me I just wouldn't go to a wedding and feel that the couple needs to give me something, of course it's a nice gesture, but would I walk out of there talking bad because of that, I think thats really rude, but please lets debate on this, I need the feedback in order to make a definite decision.

well you asked what we would think...so if some people would say they were insulted...well that is what they thought...they weren't being rude..they were being honest

well tacky is not the word because it is someones religion... i am giving favors just not spending a fortune on them like we did for the rest of the wedding... sometimes less is more elegant
i just don't want to give a dust collector I would almost feel cheap if i didn't even give something littlebut that is just me... even maybe some kind of nice place card holder or even a piece of chocolate with names on it

Re: Is anyone not giving a favor???
You know I was just thinking - how important is a favor really? My friend was in her brothers wedding last month at Fox Hollow and they gave out boxes of chocolate truffles, tied in the ribbon with their names on them. My friend said that not everyone took the favor when they left so she(my friend) took the rest and she has a ton of chocolate in her house now! What I am saying is, I dont think everyone in the world notices or cares about favors. I guess it depends on who the people are that you are inviting.

if it is a jewish tradition/religion not to give favors that is fine. But i have been to plenty of jewish weddings that have given favors. And if you wanted to know what some people would think... well that was my answer. I was being honest.

i agree with you 100% it is the people you invite..are they coming for a 3$ favor or to see you get married i mean they are getting a great meal and a fun night of entertainment
before this whole thing started my dad said to me... you are entertaining your guests not you ahha

Re: Is anyone not giving a favor???
I was gonna say two of the last three weddings I went to, did not give favors (just realized both were jewish). I'll admit I was like 'what happened to the favors?' at those two but I can also say I had no use for the candy dish from the other!! LOL!

IMO, a favor is a nice gesture to say thank you to the people who came to share your day. Take that however you want, but I think a little token from the bride and groom to their guests and is always a nice gesture.

we're doing the same thing. Two of my BMs are jewish - one gave favors, one didn't. But really it depends on how religious you are. The one that didn't had NO CLUE about half of the customs she left out until we were in my other BM's wedding. Most people won't notice or care, but there will always be some that do. As people keep telling me, you won't be able to please everyone, so you might as well please yourself.

I'm doing the same thing. The only favors I would possibly do are picture frames for the placecards, but I'm probably not even doing that. In all honestly, I'm used to going to weddings without favors, and when I do get them, my first thought is usually, 'what am I going to do with this?!'

Re: Is anyone not giving a favor???
As far as I heard and seen, at Jewish weddings they don't give out favors. We probably won't either. Land's End though does give out truffles in a package to all the guests as they leave ,so they will get something.
