Just wondering if everyone is fiancially ready for marriage. Does everyone and their FH have a profession...anyone coming out of college..are you both living with parents and is this the first time you both will be on your own. Just curious.

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
Well we are already living together he is going to school part time and I am in my career we have money saved and afterward we are planning to buy a house.
It will work out you just have to be willing to live off of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch for a while.

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
Both my FH and I have our own apts. Were looking for a place together now even though he basically lives with me. It'll be alot better once we dont have to seperate rents to pay. I have a job that I hate and would love to leave and my FH and his brother own their own business. So I think we'll be fine

We should be, me and fh are a bit older than some of the girls here, and we both are co-op owners. I am nervous about buying a house. I honestly don't feel we could afford it, but we will attempt and hopefully things will fall into place.

Fortunately we're ok. We are both well settled into our careers and have been saving for a while. At least I hope we're ok

Wow..its so wonderful to hear that all your FB and your FH's are soo ready for marriage!! I hear so many stories of women that get married and arent at all prepared for marriage. But it seems like you all are intelligent hard working women. As for me...I will be finishing my BA this december and hoping to find something in the Bronx in the meantime until we get married. Currently, I am working at an animal hospital in the bronx..making chump change..that is also were I meet my FH so I guess it was worth it. He is planning on quitting soon and going upstate (where we plan on living) and finding a better job up there..and then eventually I will join him up there and find a job up there (crosses fingers). He wants to buy a house right away because his parents are selling their house in the bronx for about 400,000 (its a huge house) and giving him 100,000 for a house and for furnishing..but I dont know if we should really move into a house right now...gee I dont know ..sorry for the long blog hehe

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
Well I just graduated from law school and took two bar exams in July. I haven't started working yet. FH and I live together (over a year now) and pay all our own bills. It's definitely not easy but I've always been the responsible type so it doesn't bother me to be the one who makes sure all the house bills are paid. I'm also going to be responsible for our investments and retirement accounts. I'm big on researching so it doesn't bother me in the least. Fh is working and has been for years, so maybe in a year or so he'll go back to finish his bachelors degree if I can handle the household bills on my own.

FH and I are both working although I wouldn't say that we are settled in our careers yet. We make pretty decent money. We plan on going back to school for our masters 'one day'. Fh wants to buy a house before the wedding, so we are saving everything that we earn. We live together now so we have a pretty good idea of what it will be like.
FH and I are ready! We both have very well paying jobs, cars, the house with room for a baby! We are all set to go! We even have life insurance and our burial plot.

Yea thats what scares me too. Its not the wedding planning..all that is easy compared to being fiancially ready for after the wedding.

To me no one is ever really financially prepared for anything, things happen. To me, the only time you are really finacially prepared is when you plan for something and the money is there for that and a surplus as well for other things and there isnt a dent in your financial set-up. People can plan for babies, homes, marriage and death, by putting money to the side, but in the end if something tragic or an emergency occured a person would be in a financial bind.

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
I think that we are ready , by that I mean , I own a home already, he has a great $$ job, I have my career where i make enuff money to contribute.
Should I decide to saty home after havin a baby , I can do so without worrying about losing my pay check.
Right now we are saving every lil cent we get , its not hard to save because we dont have a ton of expenses, but its just hard to say , no we cant spend that because it shoudl go to the wedding..
Lets face it , we take out loans on , say a new car that is like $30k, & the loan is for say 4 years . In less than that time we have had to come up with that amount if not more for the wedding. So id say , yea , we will be fine , & god forbid a emergency shoudl arise , we have set aside for that as well,,

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
Im scared for marriage, actually because of the financial aspect. My FI and I graduated from grad school, can't find jobs in our profession and both still live home but have a ton of student loans to contend with. It is a mess right now. I don't know what we are going to do and the wedding is in 10 months from tomorrow Its bitter sweet at this point, and I hate that feeling

To me this is where I personally think living with your FH can help. It sort of educates you on the finances of living together and saving& spending together. Again JMO

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
Hey NY is so expensive but I guess we are ready but it is a struggle. We live together now just moved together in aug. Before that we were paying over 2 grand to rent in separate places. I have a bachelor's and masters, I work a decent paying job with great benefits and FH owns a business so we do well....

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
Both of us are living with our parents at the moment (saving money for the wedding) but we are both settled in our careers and we have both completed graduate school and law school, so we are settled school-wise too... although we're both dorks and would love to get additional degrees, but not for awhile.
We are financially ready for marriage... although we won't be able to buy anything in this area for awhile and will have to rent for a bit, we are fine.....

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
Right now FH and I are living at home and we will move in together after we get married. We both have professional careers - although mine isn't paying what I should be getting. Other than that, we will definitely be financially ready for marriage. We will both have no debt at all and it will hopefully be smooth sailing financially.

Re: Is everyone fiancially ready for...
FH and I both live with our parents. We are paying for the wedding ourselves so we have had the opportunity to save a quite a lot for that. Before we got engaged I had some money saved up as well so we are looking into buying a house before we get married. It is getting very very scary and stressful but it is both what we really want. I hope it works out... I guess we will see!!!
