Just wondering if everyone is fiancially ready for marriage. Does everyone and their FH have a profession...anyone coming out of college..are you both living with parents and is this the first time you both will be on your own. Just curious.

No, we arent set at all... Lost to very close people to me this year and had to pay for one funeral...

i just graduated from my BFA. fh graduated a year before me, but did an extra year of study, so we're both in the same place. we're going on to the second year of living together (love it!) and probably aren't going to get married until one of us has a stable career. i'd like both of us to, but i may be going back to grad school (depending on how this teaching thing works out) and we may get married after my first year there, depending on expenses.
eta: i think we're both ready for it. we've been supporting ourselves for two years as a couple already and are doing fine. it'll be nicer if we both had super high paying jobs, but i think we're doing pretty well. the good thing is that by moving back up to ny, we'll be close to my parents who would love to have us stay there until things from moving calm down and we get our finances settled (hey, they'd love it if we stayed there forever).

1st of all, Dawn I love that ring! Is that your engagement ring?
Anywhoo...I'm finishing up my BS in Nursing and FH just graduated this May and is working as a Software Engineer. He'll be saving up as much as he can untl I graduate and join him.
We have over 2.5 years to save so we should be financially ready for the wedding and first home in due time... with a little help from the parents

FH and I both work full time and are living w/ my parents in their basement apartment to save money. Rent is a lot cheapper when you have the parent discount. We are saving for the wedding on our own but we may need to hit the credit cards to cover the rest of the cost of the wedding. We are financially set for marriage but may not be able to get a house on Long Island right away. Just way to expensive to stay here. We may do a mother/daughter house w/ my parents, buy a co-op or just move out of NY but that idea won't be visited until after the wedding.

I still live with my parent and FH bought a condo last year and I will move in after the wedding. I have a teaching job in the city, but don't plan on staying there forever but it pays the bills for now. FH has a great job and will finish his masters this May. The only thing that worries me is paying back all of my school loans since I just finished my masters.

we bought our house in april of 05..both set in careers, pay in fl isn't much but c.o.l.a. isn't too bad. it would be nice to have more money, but we're ok so far. we always say that we'd rather be poor and happy than rich n miserable...so far it seems like we're poor and happy...

You can't wait until you are financilally stable-- it can take forever--. And is anyone ever really financially stable? (except the elite, select few in this world?!) Don't stress-- determination, savings, and hard work-- we will all make it work. (At least this is what I tell myself to make it all OK)

Well both me and FH live with our parents so we are saving money on rent. We both have lived with our parents since birth so marriage will be a 1st for the two of us living on our own... We both graduated a few years ago and have professions. We're not making aLOT of $ but we're making enough to know we will be financially stable.. No matter what, you will make it work.
