Also his grandmother wants to hand deliver ALL of her own invites on her list *shrug*
I see no problem with any of this.
Is it tacky?

I don't know if it's tacky, but sounds like a huge pain in the a$$ unless they all live on the same street : )

I've had invites hand-delivered to me, and it really didn't upset me much.

Re: Is hand delivering invites tacky?
Well his grandmother is in a 'club' I guess is a good word for it. They get together in Chinatown. Her and her husband joined when they came to America. They pay in and it was one of the driving forces that helped pay for, organize and hold her husbands funeral. These are her friends. They speak her language and know Jim from when he was knee high. I've been around a few times at functions where they meet up outside the 'club' and the members are very close and love to manhandle Jim.
I have been told more times than I can count to call a woman 'grandma' because she sorta was to Jim even though his own grandmother is in the room and had a lot to do with his raising. It's just culturally different I guess. She wants to deliver them. She'd also know the addresses for those in China and she'd probably handwrite those out with a small note in Chinese to them.
I find it hard to tell his grandmother no. heh

IMO - I don't care either way. A colleague of mine just sent an email asking for everyone's home addresses & he mailed them there. He said it worked out well & was easier that way.

Re: Is hand delivering invites tacky?
A girl I work with hand-delivered her wedding invitation to me, I thought it was a bit odd & it didn't seem as 'official' as it would be if she had mailed it to me. That probably sounds dumb, but that's just how I felt.

Re: Is hand delivering invites tacky?
i think it depends...for work people, i would find it tacky if i was handed one in the bathroom or before a meeting, you know? but for family members, i think i would be flattered if someone came to my house, knocked on the door and gave it to me...

Re: Is hand delivering invites tacky?
I think that in this situation it will be acceptable. She only wants to hand deliver to her list, right? I think she'll probably have some nice words and exchanges with these people which would be a lot nicer for them than just getting them in the mail. Normally I would say mail them but in this situation she has requested to do this and I say let her. As a matter of fact, you can ask her if it would look respectful to mail or hand deliver before she does it so she can ponder that thought but whatever she decides just thank her for her interest in your wedding.

I agree. I guess I'm tacky. But it would not bother me if someone handed me an invitation. I wouldn't think 'OMG how tacky!' JMO

Do what you want. I don't think its tacky at all. I did a few like that and I said 'Your important in my life. I want to invite you personally to our wedding.'
IMO true friends and family won't think your tacky.
UGH! the little things we worry about

Re: Is hand delivering invites tacky?
I don't think it's tacky. I think it is more personal to hand deliver an invitation. But it's only reasonable if you are hand delivering to people really close to where you live. If not, it's not practical.
we are planning to hand deliver a bunch of our invitations because there are many people who are invited that live within a 3 block radius.
It actually takes more work and shows more importants to hand deliver rather than throwing a stamp on the envelope and mail it. It gives you a chance to connect with that person. If I received a hand delivered invitation, I would be honored that the person took the time out of their busy day to see me personally. Just think about it. Think about the time and effort it takes.
I don't see anything 'tacky'about it. Personally, I think 'tacky' is a completely overused word to begin with.

not that i did this but i dont think its tacky at all. IMO it actually takes a lot more effort to hand deliver a bunch of invites then stamping them and dropping them off at the PO.

Re: Is hand delivering invites tacky?
For Grandma's friends, I see no problem with her hand delivering them. That is probably just the way it done amongst the group. She would know if it that wasn't the way to do it.
Apparently tacky or not is up to interpretation, but maybe this will help you figure out what works for you:
I think it is generally considered better mail work invites, so the uninvited don't see you handing them out or see them on other people's desks.
ETA: hand delivery a work invite may also give the impression that the invitee was a last minute add-on. (oh, i happen to have a few extras in my bag. . .)

I don't know why anyone would find this tacky. I thinkn it's fine and much more personal.
