Original post by Xelindrya

Im talking folks in the office.

Also his grandmother wants to hand deliver ALL of her own invites on her list *shrug*

I see no problem with any of this.

Is it tacky?

Good point on the work pals.
It's just that when I mentioned to my boss (who was first a coworker to me) that the invite I had picked would be amusing then said 'don't worry you'll see what i mean' she was shocked.. 'You're inviting me, REALLY?!' I didnt know it would be such a big deal but she was telling another co-worker later 'I didn't expect she'd invite me, isn't that the sweetest thing?' So I figured the least I could do was hand deliever it.

The rest of the gang I guess I can mail out. I got no problme with that. But if I do it for one, I must do it for all of them (including the boss).

What about if you're only inviting your 'work' people to the church.....then would you send an invitation to ALL of them?

well, then I guess it depends on the dynamics of yuor ofice. You may be abble to handle deliver to the boss only, if you do it discreetly.
Or if they'll all be excited & there are no nosy neighbors, you could hand deliver.

That's funny, one of my coworkers said the same thing to me. She invirted me to hers, she took be out to lunch when i got engaged, etc I was shocked that she was surprised.

I also think my doesn't think she is invited, but I'll let her be surprised.

I think, you save postage, why not. Its not like your sending it via e-mail. And make sure there is still postage for the return. We are thinking of doing that with our college friends if we are still living in this hole (Troy, NY) before the wedding.
But that is because they are really laid back and wouldn't care.

I think that in this situation it will be acceptable. She only wants to hand deliver to her list, right? I think she'll probably have some nice words and exchanges with these people which would be a lot nicer for them than just getting them in the mail. Normally I would say mail them but in this situation she has requested to do this and I say let her. As a matter of fact, you can ask her if it would look respectful to mail or hand deliver before she does it so she can ponder that thought but whatever she decides just thank her for her interest in your wedding.

I think that sounds like a good idea.

Just make sure she gets you the addresses for these people anyway. If they give you a gift, you'll need an address to send the thank you card to. (Unless she wants to deliver those too, of course )

I've heard that you are supposed to hand deliver invitations to special people, i.e. parents and grandparents. So I don't think it's tacky.

To the work people...I would send them in the mail if you weren't inviting everyone, only so that you're not insulting those you are not inviting. But his grandmother....to her it may be a tradition or an honor to hand deliver them so I'd not mind that.

Clive wanted to hand deliver his invitations to his friends around here. I said 'um..NO' because first off, it's not a tradition he was just being lazy, secondly, he usually sees them in the local pub and I could just see one of them forgetting it, or putting it in their back pocket and forgetting it and it gets lost or thrown out. Even one guy said 'you woudln't hand out your Christmas cards would you? So why hand out the invitations?' I could have kissed this guy. Of course THEN Clive said 'OK I guess we should mail them'.

ETA: I know you're not doing it to be lazy.
And I don't think it's rude, I think people just get used to it being done that way.
However, another point I thought of - sometimes it might be better to mail it because people get it when they're already at home, they put it where they won't forget it, etc. If you give it to them at work, they might forget it at work and forget to give in the responce..etc. I don't know, I odn't think it is tacky unless you only invite some people in your office since others would feel left out.
