Is is bad to have other children around a newborn?

I didn't think it was a big deal but somebody passed a comment to me that when they come to visit me after I have the baby that they'll make sure they don't bring their baby.

So I have to wonder if I should be concerned or is that person being overly cautious? I need to know how to handle my niece and nephew who are 5 and 2 1/2. I thought as long as the kids were healthy they would be ok?

I can't imagine that there would be anything wrong??? I mean, how do you have two at the same time then?????

I know that some hospitals don't let little children into the maternity ward, but that's just a health precaution because some kids are not vaccinated, etc.

As long as they're always supervised around the baby, I dont' see anything wrong with your niece and nephew being around.

Kids are germ magnets.

In my hospital kids unless they are direct family arent allowed in the maternity ward. I would say as long as they dont touch the baby and just look from a distance than you should be fine. If the kids are in school you have a better chance of them dragging some unwanted germs into your house. Maybe your niece and nephew can wait a few weeks to see the baby.

As with EVERYONE who touches the baby make sure they wash their hands first!!

We were told to keep children away in the beginning because they are germ magnets.

I was in kindergarden when one of my sisters were born, I gave her chick pox at 2 weeks old!!!!! My mother said it was a horror. I also gave it to my brother and other sister. She had a 5 yr old, 4 yr old, 3 yr old and newborn with poxs/. Just something to think about when parents want thier little ones to meet your baby

Most hospitals will not let chldren who are not dirctly relalter into see the baby.. alos you will have to tell peopl with a cold or even alitttle annoying vough to stay away... Jillian was so sick at 2 weeks old.. it was not fun.,,,
