I called up this company wanting to book a harpist for my ceremony. I asked them if there was any way I could hear the harpist play first or audition and he told me that there was no point in auditioning because they all sound the same. I just figured that before I drop all this cash I should at least be able to make sure that she's half decent. Since I'm new to all this wedding planning I have no idea if I'm making this strange request in wanting to hear the music before I pay for it or if this guy is being a jerk.

Look on this site under showcases-there is a harpist on here that many have used I think her name is Janet.

i would definitely look around - if you are paying someone for a service they should allow you to hear it before hand!

I agree, i would definetely want to hear them play first. You're spending sooo much money, you want to make sure you're getting what u are paying for. And i'm sure an experienced harpist sounds A LOT better than someone just starting

I don't think it's ridiculous at all. Maybe if you really like this one person you could see if they are playing anywhere you could go hear, or if they are going to be at a showcase you could stop up. If not, and they refuse, I would look elsewhere. You don't buy your dress without seeing it. The Limo company will show you their cars. Even the halls will let you have a food tasting. Why should the harpist be any different???

I agree with everyone. You shouldn't blindly put a large some of money down on something without having an idea of what it's like!

I actually booked Janet King!! I heard her play at a showcase and I was sold!! I would def check her out, you can even hear her play on her website. FM if you have any questions. HTH

i would have told the man...'okay if they all sound the same...ill book with someone else because you are not that special obviousy' and take your business elsewhere. They are offering a service...you should get to try it out before hand. And they dont all sound the same...not that im an expert.

I feel a lot better now. They do showcases, but only their bands perform, not their solo artists so that was out. I only called them about the harpist because I had won free piano music for my cocktail hour from them so I figured I'd price it. I think I'll just take my freebie and call Janet King. She's the reason why I wanted a harpist in the first place. When I heard her samples online, it was so beautiful it made me want to cry...

Please u better audition someone before u book someone and all they know how to play is mary had a little lamb. He must be crazy to think ur going to pay for something u cant hear! CRAZY!
