Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?

Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?

So the wedding planning has kicked into high gear, but as I'm researching all the different vendors, all I see are the amounting costs of the wedding $$$$!

I plan on getting a good photographer (probably cost me $2500-$3K) but it seems like all videographers cost at least $2K as well. Now is it crazy to even think about cutting out a videographer all together? It just seems like all the vendors cost so much and I don't know where I can cut back!? What do you ladies think? Is it possible to get a videographer for under $2k?

As much as it would be great to have the wedding recorded... in all honesty how often are we really going to watch the DVD..?

TIA!

i think you can definitely find it for under $2000. Some places will just give you the raw footage for a much cheaper price.

We are not having one. I feel they are so 80's. Have someone you know just prop a video camera up at the ceremony and you will also have the pic.

I am not getting a videographer. I will watch it once and put it away and probably never look for it again so I chose to put the money towards other things.

Hey 2007 Crescent Bride! I'm getting married at CBC too!

Thanks for everyone's replies, I'm seriously considering cutting back in this area... it would be great to save the money and put it towards other stuff (like our Honeymoon! ) . I just don't know if I would regret not having it on video later... maybe I'll push off deciding on it until closer to the wedding. This way if anyone is still available I can get a better deal?

i think you should have a videographer. i would shop around and find the cheapest. having a video is nice. your family members and friends i'm sure would want to see it. my sister watches hers a lot. plus when you have kids, you can show them. i have a friend who saved money and didn't get one and now she regrets it. you don't need a fancy one but a simple video i think is nice to have.

there's always the option of buying those short disposable video cameras (i saw them at cvs but i dont know if they still have them)....u can just get a few and hand them to special people with a note saying please capture our vows, first dance, cake cutting etc.

I agree you can def find it under $2K. I am having one mostly because my friends have all told me they were hesitant for their weddings but know they would have regretted not having one.

It is your choice not to have a videographer, but here are my arguments for :

1) you will see so many things that you did not see on your wedding day day.
2) you will hear so many things that you did not see on your wedding day.
3) yes, maybe the DVD will sit in a drawer for a long while, but I pull out my sis's wedding video and watch it just to hear my mom's voice again and to see her smile.
4) it is a permanent recording of a memory.

Your video does not have to be one of those fully edited ones that look like the movie of the week. I enjoy mine, and admit to having watched it only three times so far. Each time, though, I do see something new.
You should be able to find someone good, not jsut decent, for around 2K.
Reconsider and cut back on something else if you can.

I was on the fence about getting video...but so glad i did! There were things said, even during the ceremony, that i didn't remember....i saw my parents dancing to dance music...which i didn't even see the day of...and sad to think of...but i wanted video of my parents/ILs because i know they won't be around forever...and someday when they are gone it will be nice to watch everyone together on such a happy day.....plus you are so high on adrenaline that day you seem to not remember much! Good luck!

I wasnt going to have one either and my mom talked me into it- my grandparents are older and they will not be around forever and i love the idea that I will have a permanent memory of them that I can put on whenever I want. BTW, I havent booked mine yet, but I found a lot that were under $1500 for an edited dvd with chapters, etc.

I don't think it's crazy that you won't want a videographer, that's your preference. But I would definitely shop around before you make your final decision. I'm doing the same thing because I really want one but I don't want to go over budget.

Agreed!

We weren't going to get one, but we went to a friends wedding and saw all of the stuff they were capturing that the bride and groom wouldn' t have otherwise seen, and we liked the idea of that.... Plus we found an AWESOME one that is doing everything just how we like it, it's a bit more modern and not '80's' at all. Here's his website:

You can absolutely find a videographer for less than $2000, but it depends on what you are looking for. Do you want just the raw footage or an edited video? Do you want a typical wedding video or a movie?

There are many companies, just look at their sites and you can get an idea of what type of service they provide. Good Luck and Happy Planning

honestly we had one & i am so SO happy we did...do ur research and u'll be able to find one in that price range. we used Patken for video..they have some really decent basic packages & they do beautiful work.

just make sure you're SURE if u don't end up using one...u dont wanna regret anything later on..good luck!

i agree with the above reasons for having a video, but you wouldnt be crazy for not having one. you just might regret it down the road.

my parents still whip out their wedding video -- maybe when your kids get married you will want to show them how it was done back in the day?

im pretty sure our video was not $2k... while I'd like to have video I didnt go over the top, and we went with my photographer's most basic video package. it still blew me away. you can always get raw footage only to cut costs. worst case, if you dont get a videographer i'd say buy a nice camcorder and pass it around or something.

I think you should get a video...there are places that do it for well under 2k. Its going to be a permanent memory of people and a wonderful time in your life...that can never be recaptured again!

I'm going to have one. My sister didn't have one for her wedding and she felt she missed so much during her reception because she was so busy. So I think it's good to have a videographer capturing all of the moments on tape.
