So the wedding planning has kicked into high gear, but as I'm researching all the different vendors, all I see are the amounting costs of the wedding $$$$!
I plan on getting a good photographer (probably cost me $2500-$3K) but it seems like all videographers cost at least $2K as well. Now is it crazy to even think about cutting out a videographer all together? It just seems like all the vendors cost so much and I don't know where I can cut back!? What do you ladies think? Is it possible to get a videographer for under $2k?
As much as it would be great to have the wedding recorded... in all honesty how often are we really going to watch the DVD..?
TIA!

Re: Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?
i'm having a friend of the family doing our video. To me it's not as important as the pictures, so i don't mind the fact that it wont be professionally edited.

I can see why people dont want one. They do cost a lot. I was fortunate to win mine at a wedding event. Otherwise we were not going to get one. However, everyone I know that ended up not getting one says they regret it. Maybe look into film students...

Re: Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?
iattended a friend's wedding this past Saturday and he didn't have a videographer...it's unfortunate because his best man gave the best speech EVER and he'll never be able to see/hear it again. I tried to record it on my digital camera, but after 5 minutes the memory card was full. I plan to give him the 5-minute video just so he has something to remember the speech by, but it certainly won't be the same.
I would strongly advise getting your wedding recorded.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money, then at least have a friend or family member record the special moments (the speeches, first dance, etc) on a video camera.

I do not think this is an area that you should cut out.
I can honestly say that b/c of nerves, etc. I really don't remember my church and many aspects of my reception. I know that sounds weird but I was so busy, overwhelmed and the whole day goes by so fast. I really can't wait to see my video so I can re-live the parts that I can't remember and see my guests having fun and what I may have missed. That's JMO.

Wow, thanks so much for all the responses! You ladies are the best! I am definitely reconsidering as I do not want to regret not having had a videographer later down the road. Guess I will keep checking out other vendors and see what type of deal I can find... thanks again for everyone's input!

I had one bc DH insisted-I can not tell you how glad I am that I got one-there are things I dont remember and while the pics help me remember the day its not the whole day.
Everyone I know that didnt get a videographer regret it afterwards-I would seriously consider finding it in your budget somewhere

Re: Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?
We almost didn't get one and then we decided to after some convincing, and I am very happy we did. I will admit, we haven't watched the video in probably more than a year and a half, but I am so glad we have it. The day went by so fast, everything was a blur and we are able to relive it when we watched the video. I am very happy we will be able to watch it and remember that day forever.

I didnt use a videographer. Just couldnt afford it. But a few family members took video and their videos are awesome. they caught everything. There are places you can take the video to and get it edited so I think thats what Im gonna do.

Re: Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?
our videographer was under 2k but not by much its around 1900 - but its edited with chapters and if you can add the honeymoon footage on for a small fee - they actually have videos up on their site to see their work - I was amazed at the attention to detail - and for that price they shoot for 10 hours - they put beautiful music to it - amazing :) its GMDSNY.com

I didnt get one when I got married. All my friends were telling me that I would regret it and that I wouldnt remember the night blah blah blah. Well, my uncle was nice enough to video tape parts of the day....the church, the entrance to the reception, our first dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, cake cutting and then bits and pieces of everyone dancing and having fun. That was perfect in my eyes. I couldnt see spending so much on a video.....I would only watch it like once or twice.

If you can find one in your budget definitely get one!!!!
My niece and I watched my sister's from 10 years ago, and it was soooo nice to see it again and for my niece to watch her parent's wedding.
This is the most important biggest day of your life. I strongly recommend one. It doesn't have to cost too much, you just want to capture the day.

Re: Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?
I don't think you are crazy, i think you are smart to consider all of your options. I was married in Oct. '07 and we didn't have a videographer. I really only wanted to have the ceremony on video & didn't want to pay those high prices for it. We asked people (close family & friends) to bring their video cameras. and also said that it wasn't a big deal if they didn't want to. We ended up have about 4 people video tape for us. We are planning to hopefully take that footage and have it edited into one video. I haven't looked into this yet though. We saved a lot of money by doing this and people were happy to do it!!!!
Good Luck!

Honestly before the wedding I probably wouldn't have even commented on this post, but now I have to tell you that it is MUST! The day went by so quickly that I'm soo looking forward to receiving our video so I can actually see what happened! I say go for it!

Re: Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?
I really didn't want one, but enough people have told me I'd regret it...
So I think instead of the 3k-5k that I'm being quoted for video...
I rather spend a quarter of that and get some of those neat little flip video camcorders and give it to some of the teenage guests to video. Then they can keep it and its a fun thank you gift for their service. Its only 60 minutes though, but I think it will suffice to keep their boredom at bay. 2 birds with one stone!
