Is it crazy not to have a Videographer?

Original post by jchen129

So the wedding planning has kicked into high gear, but as I'm researching all the different vendors, all I see are the amounting costs of the wedding $$$$!

I plan on getting a good photographer (probably cost me $2500-$3K) but it seems like all videographers cost at least $2K as well. Now is it crazy to even think about cutting out a videographer all together? It just seems like all the vendors cost so much and I don't know where I can cut back!? What do you ladies think? Is it possible to get a videographer for under $2k?

As much as it would be great to have the wedding recorded... in all honesty how often are we really going to watch the DVD..?

TIA!

I am in the same boat as you! But for all the reasons all the wonderful brides listed above, FH and I decided to get one. We are still looking around (had 2 appts so far- both $2G and beautiful work, but not what we can afford to spend) .We are going to keep looking....good luck with your decision!!

I think you can find a reasonably priced Videographer... originally I didn't want one but DH insisted on it.. so in the end I am very glad that we had one and I can't wait to see the video!

I am definitely getting video.

You should put a post on the vendor board and you will get a lot of responses-- many were quite affordable $1000-2000.

Some of the ones I'm considering are Halo, Hybrid Media, Orange Films, Couped Up, Wild Rose.

Even if I get an edited video, I still want the raw footage cause I want to see it all!

We're not getting a videographer. Mainly because people (ie. not you or FH) don't like to watch home videos in general, especially if they were at the wedding, and you'll probably watch it once or twice. So what's the point? But with pictures, you can share those with a lot of people and they will want to see them.

You have FM. My FH is a filmmaker and editor on the side. He can give you a great rate without breaking the bank!!! Good Luck in your planning.

I'm going to post this video again about why you should have one. They may be actors, but the facts are still there.

Why isn't anyone talking about how obtrusive the video people are to the rest of your guests?

How they are tumbling in everyone view with their bulky equipment... etc etc...

Just a bad experience in the past I guess ...

I HAVE video. For me i know i will watch, we had a videographer at our e-party(FMIL surprised us with it) and i have already seen it quite a few times. It was great to hear my MOh's speech again, i remembered or at least i thought i did word by word and when i watched it realized there were some parts i missed. Plus there were so many moments that i didnt see and it was so great to watch.

I am also definitely getting it bc i have alot of family overseas that are not able to make it to mywedding, one of them being my grandfather who cant fly bc of medical reasons. So this way even though they cant be with me the day of my wedding at least they'll be able to watch it.

Also it will be nice to actually watch our first dance. Watch us exchange vows, watch my dad and i dance together. Moments that are nice to see from a different view. And would love to show my kids the wedding of their parents and see it on video.

try rambling rose, their packages start at $999

they shouldn't be obtrusive. I went to weddings and they stayed out of our way, didnt even notice they were there after a while. Recently we watched a friends wedding video, and a bunch of us watched it and there was one part where fh and i were dancing and it was right on us and i dont remember at all on the dance floor, just didnt pay attention.

I was convinced I was NOT going to get a videographer. I thought it was a waste of money and no one including DH and I would watch it more then once. Then, about 6 weeks before my wedding, I had a change of heart.

I started hearing about how the day goes so fast there is SO MUCH you DONT see, and it great to have it on video and see it all from a different perspective. Its so true. Im really glad I did it. And I spent less then 1000 on mine, I just got a basic package with my footage...and thats all I needed...the memory to keep me happy!

Plus now I will always have a treasured memory of my older relatives on film, so one day i can show my children when those members are no longer here.

I think that it is SO important to have a videographer.

After the wedding is over, what do you have left but the photos and video?

I invested most of the $$ into those 2.
