'If I pay for my GF's plate, can she come with me to the wedding? I'd really like for her to be there.'
I'm SPEECHLESS
...have you had people invite themselves with a guest even though you didn't write 'and guest' on the envelope?
FH and I invited a guy who introduced us - neither of us have spoken to him in 2+ years. We invited him to be nice and he wrote in '+1' with some chic's name on the response.
I got the card & sent him to a text to say 'got ur RSVP today! So glad you're coming but we unfortunately r over our guest # & didnt invite people w/dates because we dont have room. I hope u understand'
He responded 'she was already expecting to go... i never heard of not letting people bring a girlfriend.. what about ___(groomsman) bringing his girlfriend and ___(groomsman) bringing his girlfriend?'
I just replied 'I'm sorry but people weren't invited with guests unless they were in the bridal party or married. Pls let me know if you're still able to make it'
what I wanted to say was 'WHY ARE YOU CAUSING ME STRESS??'
anyone else having this experience?

Re: Is it just me or...
I totally understand guest list constrictions, People can only afford to have so many people at their weddings. It's tough and some people can deal with coming without a guest. Me personally, I would never go to a wedding by myself! now AND before getting married. Who wants to go to a wedding alone? SPECIALLY if you don't know anyone there. That is sooooo awkward I would have such a shi*** time. I was lucky that I could invite whoever I wanted with a guest, heck I even let people bring their nephews or whatever...I was pretty laid back about it and I didn't even get to fill my minimum...But a lot of people can't do that which is totally understandable! I don't think people should get offended if the person they invite wants to bring a guest. Think of how you would feel all alone at a party....It can be really uneasy for some people to deal with. XOXOXOXO Kitty

To let people know kids & guests weren't invited I addressed the envelopes & the inner envelope just to them. So my uncle replies with a '?' in the will attend spot. My mom calls him & he says 'I wasn't sure how many people I was replying for?' What the F**k ?!?! He wants to bring his son....my mom told him 'NO' !! My cousin has complained that she can't bring a guest...she's newly separated...who the h*ll is she going to bring ?!?! Some people don't get it !

You SHOULD text him back and tell him.. How dare he add more stress to your life.. GRRRR!!!
Im sure it ****** to have to tell him that in the first place, but to have him argue with you and question your other guests.. I swear I would tell him to stay home!
Im sorry he idd that... but good for you for standing up and not caving!!

I agree that it is difficult for some to attend weddings alone.

First, what a weenie for doing it via TEXT message. Couldn't call you on the phone like a man. Feh. Text him back, as that's all he deserves, and say, 'It's not about the money, we're already over our minimum. Sorry!' Maybe he'll decline then and you can invite a more polite guest from the B-list.

I have, many times. I was single for a long time and went to many functions by myself. I'm an adult, I don't need an escort. Besides, I always had the hope I might meet a cute groomsman or guest!

I am not sure what I would do in your situation. Luckily I am not going to have this problem because we are inviting everybody with a guest and their child(ren). Couldn't you just let this one slide by?? If he is the only one making an issue out of it, I think it would just be easier to add her. Good Luck!!

That is so INCREDIBLY rude. I can't believe he's arguing with you over it! I'd tell him that there isn't physical space and the final answer is no; if he feels that he can't come without her, you will miss having him there. Be blunt and play hardball. Don't let him bully you into opening the flood gates!

I have to agree with this... if she's newly separated then a wedding is going to be really tough for her... I think that would be one situation where I'd definitely bend the rules a little and allow her to bring someone as a sort of 'safety blanket'
I know budgets are tight... but sometimes it's just the right thing to do, in my opinion.
to me, if somebody is in an established relationship (engaged, married, or just committed to each other) you invite them with guest, and if somebody is in a tough situation (like above) you cut them a little slack.
if they just want to bring a friend for the h#ll of it, them tell them no!
anyway, if he's willing to pay for it, sure he's being a pain, but it's not putting you out any, so why not? unless it's just a crazy tiny wedding and you don't want extra people there (like 50 or fewer guests), I can't see any reason why not.

I haven't even sent out invites yet and I've been having this problem for months! And we are inviting anyone who has a BF or GF to bring their guest, BUT a few people have expected already to just 'FIND' a guest to bring by the time the wedding comes!!?? What sense does that make? I would never!

Yes I had two invite guest who were not invited, one of which is FH's Bosses wife, the other was a friend who is not dating anyone at all. It takes nerve, but we let it go, I didnt want any problems. But I really wanted to tell them something else if you know what I mean......

I haven't responded yet.
I hate to say it - but I'm so pissed about this situation. I understand what some people are saying about how bringing a guest is nice but I was single for 2 years & I went places alone and that was okay... he knows a good 10+ people that are going to be there - he just wants to bring her to show her off. Trust me.
I invited people who were engaged &/or are about to be engaged with their dates but this guy hasn't even spoken to me or FH in almost 2 years and we didn't even know he was dating someone. And if he is or isn't seeing her seriously, it doesn't matter - I think it's RUUUUUUUUUUUUDE and classless to harass the bride. I already explained it's about numbers.
This ain't a freakin banquet where you pay for your plate, it's my wedding. If you're not there for me of FH than you should stay home.
Jerk.
I filled in FH & he wants me to call him and tell him 'since you're so concerned about being with your girlfriend that evening, we think it would be best if you both stay home.'
