is it legal..

to copy a STD I found online and make it myself?
I found a really awesome std I LOVE LOVE... and its soooooooo expensive - if I try to recreate it myself is that legit (I feel like theres some sorta of copyright laws for this)? lol

If it's copyrighted usually it won't let you actually copy it. That's my understanding...I'm no legal guru though

i don't think there are copyright laws for things like that. i'm making invitations i found online but were too expensive...

No because you will be using your own supplies and everything so even if it looks the same it won't actually be 'the same'.

You mean like copy the picture and paste it into word for printing? I can't imagine that it would be illegal or if it is how they would find out, however the quality probably wouldn't come out the same. Maybe you can put out an alchemy request on Etsy and see if someone would be willing to help you recreate them! HTH!

yes there are copy right laws for things like that.

we purchased our STDs from vista print & when i wanted to use the same design for the invitations i was told that she would have to redesign it for me.

i am happy with how similar it looks.

i was also told the same thing when i asked an Etsy vendor if they can embroider the ring pillow with the same design.

Hmm....I'm sure you can take ideas and base an STD around that, but as far as stealing the image, I don't think thats OK, but who can stop you, KWIM?

i'd say if you literally scanned it and copied it, there would be something wrong w/ it, but if you are going to recreate it and make it your own then go for it!

thanks girls i really fell in love with this.. but it was insane how much it costs... maybe ill check out etsy or try vistra print .. its a STD timeline.. I don't know if any of you have seen it.. but its really cute.. and I would have to write in my own words for it anyway!!

you can recreate something but cannot steal it and use it.

you can have an extra 'swoosh' added to yours and it will actually make it yours.
