I agree, that it's nice, but I think it depends on who is coming in. If it's people that come in often enough, then maybe not. but if it's people who don't come in at all and are coming just for the wedding, a little something might be nice.

Im planning to give small wine bottles as favors, and for the hotel bags I was thinking of something to complement the wine, like cheese and crackers (nice kind though, not vending machine kind)

i think its a nice touch for out of town guests. but if you don't want to spend the extra money, maybe you could just type up some sort of welcome letter/itinerary to leave for them when they arrive?

I agree with Palebride...it is a nice gesture. If you are almost out of money (as most of us are) how about baking cookies and putting them wrapped up nicely? It is always nice to have munchies when you are in your hotel room late night after a wedding.

I got this once! I was at a wedding in Saint Louis & the bride baked cookies for each of us. When I checked in the lady at the front desk gave me a cellophane bag & the coolest part - there was a room service gift certificate for 2 glasses of milk that they prepaid for!!! it was awesome!

I actually forgot I was planning on doing them. I should put it on the list. They are up there with menus as 'things mostly to be cut when I run out of time'

I'll probably do them (snacks, water, directions, itenerary (sp?), etc.) but if you don't I'm sure no one will miss them.
