Is it ok that I'm a little annoyed?

Original post by eogara

My mom called me Sunday and told me, just in the course of conversation, that my aunt (a very close aunt) got her outfit for the wedding. She's wearing a cream colored pantsuit.

Now, I KNOW that there is nothing I can do about this. However, my mother yelled at me for being annoyed, telling me it's none of my business what the guests wear. Would it bother you that a) she's wearing pants and b) it's cream when I'm in ivory??

i wouldn't stress it, your wearing a wedding gown she's wearing a pantsuit. No one is going to notice.

i agree that any shade of white should nto be worn to a wedding unless there is another color present as well. maybe it's a really fancy pants suit?? maybe you are just picturing a basic suit, and maybe it is much fancier than that.

It wouldn't bother me either way I'd rather my family and guests be comfy in a pants suit and in a color that compliments them then to wear something that they look aweful in I tried talking my mom into a dress last night that was cream/ivory, but it ended up looking bad on her. You have enough to think and worry about - don't worry about what your guests will wear

my mil got a ligh colored dress....its like a light caramel (as per my fh). I am not even worried about the color matching mine (Im wearing white) but I think it is too bland a color for her. I am a little upset that she didnt ask my opinion...even though I did voice when she tried on another dress that I would like to see ehr in color so it will look nice in the pics

Sprry to vent...but i know how you feel

My mother wore an off-white two piece dress. It was gorgeous and I was proud she did. Sorry you are stressing about this, but you are going to be shining that day and there will be no mistaking you as the center of attention.

i would be a little annoyed myself... but the reality is that no one will notice. if your mom didn't tell you, i wonder if you even would have noticed on the big day. there's no way she will take away from you!!! and about the pants, i'm sure they're dressy pants... and even if they're not, again, i don't think anyone would think twice about it.

I would not be offended either way. Everyone knows that you are the center of attention that day. My grandmother is wearing a cream dress that day. It is gorgeous and I picked it out!!!

Dont stress the small stuff

i noticed a guest at my wedding wore a white wrap dress, with white stockings and white shoes! i couldn't beleive it! but i got over it after a little while. if it's a different shade, then that's ok

I guess maybe I should have stated that truthfully, I'm not worried about her 'taking the attention from me' - it's more that there are sort of rules about that kind of thing and, 'ridiculous' or not, it annoys me that she's not paying attention to them. But again, I know there's nothing I can do about it, I was just curious if I was crazy or other people would feel the same way.

I totally feel your annoyance. I took my mom dress shopping the other day and she fell in love with an eggshell colored satin dress that had stones on it. It was stunning and it would have totally shown me up.

She will NOT be wearing that dress.

I would be bothered by it too. I confess - I actually asked our parents to tell their friends/family please don't wear white/ivory.

As for showing up the bride - in my parent's album they have a picture of a woman who is wearing a slinky bright red dress slit down to her neather region. She was miss universe from 15 years b/f their wedding - and even she could not steal the thunder from how radiant my mom looked in the photographs.

P.S. You are so not being bridezillaish about the color thing.

Sorry - But I have to agree w/ your mom (well, not for YELLING at you!) But you really hve no control over what your guests wear. Would I wear cream or Ivory ? No.........but many older women do. - My cousin's Godmother wore a cream colored dress to her wedding........WHO NOTICED ? No one !! - YOU are the bride !! No one is going to give anyone ele's outfit a second look !!

Yes, I don't know if traditions have changed but the older people in my family don't feel that ivory or beige is wrong to wear to a wedding.

Now if you want a big no no...when my MOH got married a 'friend' of ours wore a white sequined tea length strapless dress to the wedding. How's THAT for class?

I think you have every right to be upset-most women should know that you dont get anything in the cream/ivory/white family when you are attending a wedding unless you clear it with the bride first (and most people will still think its rude even if you think it is ok!!!)

Eileen - you are totally justified in your feelings. Most people understand their is a certain etiquette about what to wear to weddings. It could be a dark cream outfit = even if it is light, I really wouldn't stress too much over it. People are going to wear what they want anyway. I'm sure all eyes will be on you anyway!

I am so fine with the pants suit....I actually think its very nice. However, I would NOT be ok with the color choice. Thats not so good at all.
