invite people only to the church and not to the reception? I have a lot of people that I know from hs, and from just life, who I only speak to maybe once every 3 months online, and they keep sending me their addresses looking for an invite. I cant invite them. Our guest list is already out of control, we need to get it down, and have been voting people off lately. Is it wrong to only invite them to the church? If its ok, how do i invite them to the church only?

THE IS THE RUDEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD OF!!!!!! Wouldn't you be embarrassed to look these people in the face? You're basically saying 'you're not special enough to make the invitation list, but I'd like you to take time out of your busy day to watch me walk down the aisle.' In fact, I recently watched an OPRAH episode on good etiquette and she had a couple in the audience who asked this same question. Everyone else in the audience and OPRAH was appalled that such an idea would even be considered. If you want certain people to be at the church but not at the hall, try getting it out through word of mouth where you're getting married and that you welcome anyone who would like to give their blessing. That way, if these people want to show up at the church, it's their choice. Then, they don't have to feel ashamed as everyone else makes their way to the reception and they have to make their way home. (**and just because other people on these boards say they've done it, doesn't make it right.)
I have to agree- I have gone to the church a couple of times to see someone married when I wasn't invited to the wedding like friends of my sisters or brothers etc but I would be very insulted to receive an invitation to a ceremony only.

whoa ladies please dont take me the wrong way, i never said i was sending an invitation with no reception card, all i said was is it ok to ask them to come to the church and not the reception, truth is there just isnt enough room for everyone, especially not people i havent seen in 3-5 years. I just feel wrong saying hey look i know you e mailed me your address but im not sending you an invitation. if the room was bigger and money was not an issue id invite everyone ive ever met, but thats just not possible. this was actually normal practice a few years back. i would never send them an invitation, and just leave the reception card out! I really want them to come, but I just cant it really is not possible, but I do want them to know how i feel, i want them to know that i want them to be there

I say go ahead - it's better to acknowledge your love and care for them this way rather than just ignore that they exist completely!
thats exactly what i want to do! i want them to know that i do want them to be there, and i want them to know that i care about them, id feel awful if i just didnt invite them at all

well - you know that I completely agree with you.
Look - we here are good for advice on makeup, hair, where to get this and where to get that - but you have to draw the line with what you feel is the right thing to do - we are in no way equipped to tell you what's right or wrong - just opinions based on our own feelings and experiences.
Please do what you feel is right and don't take anything personally or seriously here.... There is no way we are equipped to tell you what is in your heart and how you should feel about doing something that you may regret...
Also, we cannot dictate how the people in your life will respond to being invited to the ceremony. I personally, am honored to be remembered in any occasion - no matter ho big or small. I have been thru a great deal in my life, and not being invited to a reception hardly makes a dent in the grand sceheme of things. I can't think of anything more beautiful than watcgh a woman walk down the aisle... the drunken party after pales in comparison.
