IS IT REALLY TOO EARLY TO START PLANNING????

Hello Ladies,

I am going through some issues with my family and FH , and I would like your feedback!

They keep telling me that it is too early to start planning and meeting with vendors!
I know that I am getting married in Oct of 2011 but I like to do my research and planning ahead of time, that is just the way that I am. The only two things I have booked are my Church and RH (the RH was FH's idea to book early). Is it really too early to meet with Florist, DJ's, limo companies, photographer, and even too early to pick out dresses??????

I know I have plenty of time, but I like to get a head start! :)

Thanks in advance

If I had the money right now, I'd be booking everything.

I def want to book photog and DJ or band in the next two months and I'm getting married a few weeks before you. I do NOT think it's too early to start planning.

Maybe they're concerned with vendors you've booked notbeing around by then,,, but if you're taking this much time to plan you're going to book vendors that have fantastic reps and have been around forever, so I woudln't worry about that.

Early bird catches the worm.

Well there's pros and cons to booking early.

Pros:
You've got pretty much free pick of vendors b/c most will still have the dates availalbe
You can get 2009/2010 pricing
You won't have to worry later down the line

Cons:
You might second guess yourself as time goes on
With this economy, the possibility of vendors going out of business

You plan when you want to plan... if you start now it gives you more time to get the money together...

Whenever you feel like you are ready to plan then plan.

It is never too early to start planning. If you book this year you will pay this year's prices; many vendors increase their prices each year. For instance, my DJ told us he increases his prices by 25% each year; which was crazy to me.

I'd start meeting with vendors, try and go with ones that are a little more well known (as laura said, they could go out of business)

Don't sign anything just yet. DO AS MUCH SHOPPING AROUND AS POSSIBLE!

FH and I became engaged july of LAST year, started planning a few months later.. then stopped... now we have less then a year to get everything together!

I got engaged Aug 2008- and started booking things October 2008. I am getting married 2010. So I started almost 2 yrs in advance. The good thing about booking early is you can lock in 2009 rates

Thank you ladies for the wonderful support you always provide. I feel better. I have been researching and doing my homework with many of the vendors since I am afraid if any do go out of business( I guess that is what insurance if for)!

Either way, I will continue to meet with Vendors and hope for the best!! Thanks again

i would plan when you are ready. I don't think its ever too early to start your research at least. There are sooooooo many vendors out there and you have the benefit of time to choose exactly which ones you want. I agree with Laura who said you might second guess yourself and they might go out of business, so keep those cons in mind too. If there is a vendor that you are absolutely in love with and would be crushed if you couldn't use them, then I'd say book them!

I agree you might want to wait until next year.

I HATE 'you have so much time'! I got engaged in January and we're getting married September 2010. I booked EVERYTHING within the first 5 months of being engaged. The only thing I have left now is the limos and tuxes. I got my dress less then a month after getting engaged. Some girls need their dresses still but it's you're wedding. You guys should plan when you want to. The BIGGEST advice I try to give people recently engaged (my cousin just got engaged) is don't listen to people. EVERYONE is going to have an opinion and you can think about it but when it comes to 'you have time' and 'don't do that now' don't listen. It's your time, and you're the bride.

I think that it's great to book early because you can get better pricing and your choice of vendors. I love how every vendor that I have contacted is available on our wedding date! FH and I started planning this past July and were originally planning on getting married July or August 2010 and I found that RHs and vendors I contacted were already really booked up for summer 2010. Our plans changed and we decided to wait until 2011 and I love how we have our choice of vendors.

I would do research and book photo/viedo and go dress shopping but you have plenty of time to book the other vendors!!

Re: IS IT REALLY TOO EARLY TO START PLANNING????

It's def not 'too early' to start booking some vendors. I'm getting married 3 months before you, and i booked my RH already. Your FH is right -- the RH is definitely the first thing to book. If you have a specific date in mind -- then the earlier you book-- the more likely that date will be available.

So far, the RH is the only thing I have booked, but I'm going to start booking other vendors (Band & florist) over December break when I'm off from school.

Like everyone said above -- you can lock in the 2010 rates with some vendors. My RH said it was increasing prices at least $10/pp for 2011, but I was able to get the 2010 rate.

Don't stress though-- you still have plenty of time to do your research and book your vendors

Re: IS IT REALLY TOO EARLY TO START PLANNING????

my plan was to get everything booked this year with major vendors I now only have the florist left and then everythign else dress ect. It is never too early to plan your wedding. I love planning early so that way I have more time to make payments to the vendors. I RH, church, and photographer/video booked before the 2 year mark.
