IS IT REALLY TOO EARLY TO START PLANNING????

Original post by cynn81

Hello Ladies,

I am going through some issues with my family and FH , and I would like your feedback!

They keep telling me that it is too early to start planning and meeting with vendors!
I know that I am getting married in Oct of 2011 but I like to do my research and planning ahead of time, that is just the way that I am. The only two things I have booked are my Church and RH (the RH was FH's idea to book early). Is it really too early to meet with Florist, DJ's, limo companies, photographer, and even too early to pick out dresses??????

I know I have plenty of time, but I like to get a head start! :)

Thanks in advance

I got engaged in July 08 and booked everything except florist by Feb 09. It is def. not too early. Do what you feel comfortable with.

Our big day is one month before yours and we have already booked our venue, which I think is very important. Other than that, we are taking our time with the rest of our vendors. After all we do have almost like two years.

Is it not too early for major vendors like dj and photo. The best ones go quick!

Planning early helps alot financially. Give yourself the extra needed time to pay all of the vendors. There are so many people who did not give themselves enough time and ended up pushing their dates back!

in regards to certain aspects it is not too early to start planning. if some vendors are willing to book this early and you are 100% sure they are the one's you want then i would definitely book. it is good to lock in 2009-2010 pricing because it could increase. i would wait till the spring/summer of 2010 to start dress shopping because a lot of things can change in that time and you might end up changing your mind or second guessing yourself! hth

you are lucky because now you get some great research time! Utilize these boards, there is SO much information on here that I wish I saw earlier in my planning stages!

i don't think its too early. when you're ready, you're ready and that's that.

I don't know why it would be too early. If you want to start now, start now. You'll have your pick of vendors.

JMO ... but I would start doing research but I wouldn't necessarily book anythign right this minute. Your taste might change (esp. dress wise) Make sure you keep it fun! No need to battle esp. with so much time to plan !

I dont think its ever too early. Some of the vendors I wouldnt do until summer 2010 because your opinion may change. You will still have plenty of time if you book mid 2010.

If everyone thinks it's too early then do some research and vendor searching on your own for now and then incorporate FH and family if you are 100% certain you want to book. This way all the hard work is done and they can just do the finalizing with you.

It is never too early to start booking anything. You will absolutely get who you want no questions asked....sometimes I wish I had a little more time, so it can't hurt. Good luck!!

There are pros and cons like Laura said. It is definitely not too early, but you have time if you need it. If you're someone who knows who she wants to book and have your heart set on someone... then go for it. Otherwise, you have plenty of time to really meet and interview vendors and get extensive feedback. Read the Bride's Review Board and reach out to some ladies on here to get feedback.

This is why I love this site...you ladies are great help! I will continue to research and meet with different vendors so that I have a better idea of pricing. But as far looking for my dress, i def won't do that until Spring/Fall of 2010 (I'm looking to lose some weight first) and also because I know myself and I might change my mind if I look too early. Thank you all again and happy planning to everyone!!
