is it rude to..

Invite friends and not their bfs or fiances (that they are not living with) to a small engagment dinner?

I think fiances are a must - it doesn't seem right to not invite them. For friends with boyfriends, I would only invite them if it is a serious relationship (not if they just started dating). JMO!

What if you've been friends with the person for 3 years but you've never met the elusive fiance?

it gives you a chance to meet the elusive fiance - and it is her choice whether or not to bring him. Honestly, I think it is in poor taste to invite one person without their fiance or husband/wife unless it is a purely work function. Sorry.

I agree. I would be pissed if my FH was left out. But if finances are an issue, can you explain???

I agree (unless all the friends except one or two have fiancees and serious boyfriends, then I would let them bring a date if they want).

My friend who was paying for her wedding herself, invited me to her rehearsal dinner w/o my fiance, and I totally understood.. I think maybe it depends on who the people are... if they are close friends, then you would hope they'd be understanding about it, but if they aren't as close to you, they may be upset if they were invited solo...

if they have a FI or a long time sig other then I do think it would be rude not to invite them.

You def. should invite fiances. My fiance was invited to a WEDDING without me and we LIVE together and now, there is not a snow balls chance in he!! that he and his wife are being invited to my wedding. My FI actually WENT. sometimes he sooo lacks in the social grace category

I think it's disrespectufl, especially if they've been dating awhile or are engaged. Without question. If I were invited to a party without FH, I just wouldn't go and I'd be pissed off

the only people that would go to the RD are those that are PARTICIPATING in the ceremony itself and therefore in the
rehearsal itself.

the 'extra' people (spouses, sig others) can be invited if you can swing it financially, but if you can't, I don't think anyone should EXPECT you to put yourself out- I think that EXPECTATION is rude.

do what you can. honestly, if the people you have chosen to include so intimately in you special event are WORTHY of the honor, they should understand how prohibitive the cost is of all of these things.

I think it would be very rude to invite someone with out their fiances.

I would invite fiances and significant others to the rehearsal dinner. If money was a factor then I would just change it to a less expensive venue.
