Is it rude to ask one of your BM's

Original post by Collweenie21

to cover up a tattoo on her arm?? I mean... I love tattoos, but there not for me, and I just don't want them in my wedding photos. Would you be insulted?

I'm personally not into tattoos either, but I don't think I'd ask someone to cover theirs up. My BMs are wearing tea-length dresses and my cousin (one of my BMs) has a tattoo on her ankle. It is not small and is very visible, but I don't think I'm going to ask her to cover it up. JMO

Dumb question, I wonder if you could just photo shop a few for your personal collection and not let them see. Ha ha!

i personally dont like the way large tattoos look in formal pictures. a small tat on a foot, wrist, back of neck doesn't really bother me and isnt hugely visible.

it's easy for me to say 'oohhh you evil bridezilla, how dare you!' since I'm not put in the same situation but large calf tattoos (with short BM dresses) or large shoulder tattoos WOULD bother me. They are so noticeable in pictures.

Depending on where they are, you could pick long dresses, shawls/wraps, or other ways to cover them without drawing attn to the one BM with tats. You could try to get the photographer to pose her so its not shown in formal photos, or ask her how she feels about it.

Good luck

i TOLD my sister that if i got a short dress, her JUMBO tattoo on her ankle would have to be covered up.

i was asked this a few years ago & was totally offended! i have 4 tats - the only one that was going to show was a small one on my shoulder... i was so upset!!

i would never ask someone to cover up their tats b/c i know how i felt when i was asked - your BMs are your BMs for a reason.... no matter what they look like

I would ask if she would cover them up but I would pay for her to do it.

the photographer might be ble to position her in a spot where its not visible!

ehhhhhhhhhh - I dont think I would. I know how you feel - but it means a lot to your bm. Could you give her a nice shawl or pashmina?

Honestly.... yes, it's rude. You asked her knowing that she had these tattoos. They are part of her and I think it's a little disrespectful to ask her to cover them up.

Thats fine. I went crazy to find a dress that covered one of my BMs tatoos on her back. All the low cut back dresses I liked we couldn't get. She has a huge tatoo on her back. She felt bad, but I still found a dress I loved.

You know your BM and the relationship you have with her. If you think even a little bit that she might be offended or upset by you asking her to cover it up, then I wouldn't....why risk hurting a friend over it. But, if you think she'll be ok with you asking her to cover the tat...even if she's not ok with covering it up...then it's fine to ask, just be prepared that she might not be willing to do what you're asking of her. JMO though.

it depends on the person. i know i have 3 tats and if someone asked me to cover it i think depending on the manner and timing, i may be upset. but my MOH has 9 very large tats and i'm not asking her to cover them up. i picked her knowing full well she had them and that they'd be visible.

How would someone even cover up a tat? I mean, I know they have kits..but in a spot like a shoulder, wouldn't it smudge off with people hugging that person and sweating from dancing???
