Is it rude to say you prefer cash?

Is it rude to say you prefer cash?

How do you voice that you'd prefer cash vs registry presents?

Any stores that give cash refunds?

It's just that this wedding is costing us an arm and a leg!

People have been asking me what I want for my wedding...I think they think they have to get me gifts off my registry. I keep telling them I prefer Cash. It might seem rude, but I honestly think people look relieved when I say this. Cash is so much easier than having to go buy a gift.

Have very close friends and family spread the word.
When my friend was getting amrried I knew how tight they were moneywise. I asked her what she preferred for engagement/shower and she told me $$ (although she was a bit embarrased)
I helped to spread the word to our mutual friends.

it is rude to say it.

BUT you can have your parents spread the word....but I'd limit to your parents spreading...not the bridal party...cause then it will surely look like you told the to say it.

i agree. just create 1 bed, bath, and beyond registry...and you can exchange all items purchased there for cash. no receipt necessary--since your registry is the receipt.

If you don't register you'll get a ceramic light up Bible with a generic version of Corinthians (actually, you may get that even if you do register like we did).

BUT, you still shouldn't ask for cash.

I don't recommend doing that!!!!! Some people will give cash, but a lot will go out and by what they THINK you like or what they think you 'need'. Usually it's the most horrendous or useless stuff, so I would def register to at least one store. I liked BB&B, we had to return some stuff and got cash back, no problems at all!!

i haven't had anyone ask me, but i suppose a good answer is that you really want a house. obviously, no one person will buy you that but i think it implies that you want $$$.

I NEVER tell people cash. I tell them where I am registered and that is yet...

did I prefer cash? YES - and the people that knew what financial straits we were in never asked - they just gave cash - but I could never tell someone 'Don't bother going to Bed bath and beyond because I'm just gonna cash it in!'

Are you talking about for the shower? For the wedding most people will give you cash - we only received one non-monetary gift.
I think it is rude to ask for cash.

I don't think YOU can ask for cash but your mom and bridesmaids can share their OPINION if guests ask them what you need from your registry. I want my formal china most from my registry and I made sure to tell my mom and bridesmaids, in turn I know several people have asked them what they thought I want and they'[ve been able to give educated responses EVERYONE WINS!

Is it rude to say that to your guests, yes....IMHO

Like someone else said, register for things and then if you return them, they will give you cash back.

It's technically rude to actually state this. But it can be spread, thoughtfully through word of mouth. And Bed Bath and Beyond refunds for cash!

I know how much a wedding costs because we paid for our own too. I wish you could just say 'We are registered at the bank'.
