FH and I were invited to a Jack and Jill shower in a church basement for a co-worker (at the time) of his a few years ago. They charged $25 at t the door and had raffles throughout the night (that you had to pay for). All the money was going towards paying for the wedding.

None of the co-workers (including us) were invited to the wedding.

It was *weird*!!! I don't usually feel that way about anything, but it felt really strange to be at what felt like a charity function to pay for someone's wedding. (Especially one we never went to.)

I'm just glad someone said not to bring a gift! I would've felt even more foolish then.

I hope they had a wonderful wedding, don't get me wrong, but it was a one-of-a-kind experience.

If you want to celebrate with your co-workers, I suggest going out to drinks with them after work one night, not inviting them to your eparty if you're not planning to have them at your wedding.

WOW That is just one of the craziest things I've ever heard of! $25 at the DOOR

that is crazy!!!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only person who felt that situation was just so STRANGE!!!!

One of the bride's BMs won one of the raffles -- a timex clock radio -- and I was like 'oooh, that's exactly what I was looking for to bring to work!' and she actually gave it to me. I have it on behind me right now 3 + years later listening to PLJ this morning. I think that's part of why I remember it so well!

To answer the question of why people went... we had no idea what we were going to when we went. There were no formal invitations (according to FH) so all we had was an email with directions to a church. All he told me was that it was a Jack & Jill shower, which I googled. Believe me, I never expected it to be like this! I was glad I had some cash with me... but still... sheesh!

Glad everyone got a giggle out of the insanity!

ok someone is gonna totally laugh at me now but i feel like an idiot having asked that now. i appreciate you girls advice and am totally not going to do it. actually what even put it in my mind was that, i was at a bachlorette party and maybe its a little different with a bach but anyway at the end of the two days we all spend in ac, i said to one of the girls, ok see you at the wedding and she was like, oh, im not invited and i felt horrible. so i thought that i definately dont want that type of thing at my bridal shower but hey, you never know sometimes a question is asked that you think it totally weird or not right and people are like, no, its super fine...ok, not with this one! got it
