I know that sounds really strange, but my parents are divorced and I'm having a VERY difficult time with both sides when it comes to who is walking me down or not. EVERYONE is being a big baby and can't walk if this one does or doesn't, etc....this is the ONLY thing that has been stressful for me to the point that I Just want to cry. What have you seen done or what would you do????

Re: Is it weird to walk yourself down?
I've seen weddings where the divorced parents walked down by themselves and the bride walked down solo.
I don't think it would be weird at all- it's your wedding do what you like and don't let anyone tell you diffrently.
Had my cousin and great aunt decided not to walk me down I would have done one of two things- had my friend and his wife (my friend is like a brother to me and I've known him for over 20 years- his wife-I met her when I was in college as a freshman and hooked the two of them up years ago) walk me down or I would have walked down solo by myself.

oh.. I've heard of brides walking alone.. will you be able to do that tho? I think its a bold, independent statement - I like it. What about a grandfather, or an uncle you may be close to? I've recently read in one of those bridal magazines about a girl who had her step dad walk her 1/2 way, then her real dad finish til the alter.. maybe you can do this with your parents?

It's your wedding.......do what you feel is right. Talk to FH get his in put, but in all honesty it's you that is walking down. If you want walk by yourself...don't let this bring you or your special day down.

Honestly whatever makes you most comfortable. My friend did half with one set of parents and the other half with the other set of parents or how about 1/2 with your mom and 1/2 with your dad

Re: Is it weird to walk yourself down?
My parents are divorced. I asked my mom if she was ok with walking down the aisle with me and my dad. At first she said no but then she changed her mind when she saw me blubbering and stressing me out. I can't say my way will work but there isn't anything wrong with walking by yourself. What matters is what make you happy. Your day you way

not weird at all. in this day and age, not everyone has a dad, or sometimes even a parent, and parent/child relationships are not always 'like that'.
Do what works for you, and don't worry about what is 'weird'.

Re: Is it weird to walk yourself down?
I feel like all the time on TV a character of a show is walking themselves down the aisle. I've never thought it was weird looking. I think it'll be fine. Besides, when you're walking down the aisle, all eyes are on the bride anyway, so who really notices the person on her arm?

I think it would be great! I have actually secretly wanted to walk down the aisle by myself for a while since I think it just puts ALL attention on the bride, but I wouldn't ever take that away from my dad. If it's getting to be a problem for you, though, DO WHAT YOU WANT.

Re: Is it weird to walk yourself down?
I dont know if you are getting married at a church but my deacon said it is customary for the Groom to walk down the aisle as a couple entering into the sacrament of marriage together.
I wanted to have him up at the alter already but If my both my parents were alive I think that I would have to insist that it is my day and I want them both to walk me down. Maybe ask them to sacrifice this one 15 min period of time for you. Then the rest og the night they can ignore each other or do what they do.
I sympathize with you mom & dad in my family =

Your deacon said it's customary for the bride and groom to walk UP the aisle together? Not to leave together? What kind of church do you belong to? I have never ever heard of the bride walking down the aisle with the groom - i don't think it's a bad idea, but I just have never heard of it.

Yes I thought it was weird but he knows that my dad passed and my brother is walking up the aisle three time . SO he said that we could walk up together because it would signify us entering into the sacrament of marriage from the front door. Its pretty interesting the spin he put on it but I have never seen or heard of that before. So my bro will have to be wearing his running shoes BTW Roman Cathloic

I don't think it's weird at all. Do what you feel comfortable with. If you really prefer to walk with someone, maybe you could walk down with a close Uncle or friend or Cousin. But don't worry, it's your day and you should have the wedding the way you want. Weather it's walking with both parents, alone, or with a close friend, as long as it's what you and Fh both want, that's all that matters. Good luck
