Is it wrong that I want a totally typical wedding/reception?
After thinking long and hard and talking to FH, I realized that I want (as does FH) all the typical wedding things. Garter toss, Electric Slide (in fact one of FH's friends called him today to make sure that we were doing it!!! FH's friend is crazy)...I digress. Traditional up and down the aisle music,
I just feel like I am out dating myself compared to so many other brides. I know...believe me I know that it's my day...but if we do all these 'traditional' things are we not showing our guests a good time? It seems that a lot of brides are stearing away from the traditional. IDK maybe I am just stressing a bit but I feel like the traditional isn't the 'IN' thing to do anymore..................
BY THE WAY...SORRY THIS IS SOO FREAKIN LONG...I just started venting and then BAM!!!

Whatever floats your boat. There is nothing wrong with going traditional. Your wedding should suit you. Doesn't matter what other brides are doing. I'm a big fan of tradition myself.

You aren't wrong at all. Your wedding is about you. Don't feel bad that you want a traditional wedding!

Re: Is it wrong...........
My FH thinks that if you don't do pretty much ALL of these things, THEN people will be disappointed! So, I'd say we're probably doing a lot of traditional things....I was actually really nervous to ask him if he envisioned me wearing a blusher veil coming down the aisle since I really don't want to wear one (but if he envisioned me that way I would do it for him)....I finally bit the bullet and asked this weekend and he actually said no, he thought that people don't do that anymore and it's outdated! I was shocked, considering he has told me he wants so many other things b/c they are expected! Yay! Single tier elbow length it is!
I think there's something to be said for tradition.....it must have at least some merit and fun, that's why it became tradition!

First off...thank you ladies for being awesome as always!!!
Snickles56...my dad and FH are ADAMENT that I have the blusher walking down the aisle. When we were looking at veils all I kept saying is my dad's gonna kill me if I don't have a blusher!!!! So I am wearing one! I think it's bad enough that I'm not getting married in a church (FH is Lutheran, I'm Catholic and we are getting married by a Methodist!!!) that I have to do a lot of the traditional things for the sanity of my parents and FH's mom and Grandpa.

Re: Is it wrong...........
Gabbie83... Some people think the garter toss is cheesy or the traditional dances, and things like that. A blusher is the short veil that comes over the brides face as she walks down the aisle. I don't know if there is an official 'Cheesy things to do at wedding' list...although I'm sure some would be happy to post one while others would cry if one was posted!!!! I have just read reviews and posts that make it seem IDK.....uncool to have those things.

The blusher is the part of your veil that covers your face when you walk down the aisle. Some girls don't have them, some do. I learned this from my friend who I was moh for 2 years ago. Had no clue until then.
I guess the list of things some brides don't do are the garter toss and the group dances like the electric slide, etc. Not sure what else would go on that list.
Plenty of brides do them, some don't. Just a matter of personal preference.

I agree. I don't think specific things are wrong or right. We will have a lot of traditional things. No garter or bo-k toss since we have about 2 single friends. FH is still taking the garter off -- we are just giving that and the bo-k to his grandparents instead.
Go for what you want!

Re: Is it wrong...........
if i had more single girls, i would do the bok toss, but i dont and i dont want 3 girls to feel uncomfortable
FH doesnt want to do the garter so that is his choice

Don't worry..traditional is always 'IN'! Its your wedding and you can do it your way.
Who cares is some may find it cheesy- thats their opinion.
If you dont do them, you will regret it later so go for it.
ETS- those so called 'cheesy' things are fun..electric slide, etc.

There will be tons of single friends at our wedding that's why FH thinks it's a great idea!!!

Re: Is it wrong...........
nope not at all, i'm the same way. especially the Electric Slide.... it's the one song that usually gets my whole (female) family up on the floor. I'm not sure about the garter toss but FH wants to do it, so we will.

Re: Is it wrong...........
if it makes it any easier for you think of it as you being 'retro'
...I like you am 'retro' and am doing many traditional things although I and FH are usually very do our own thing kinda people. We surprised ourself once we talked about it how many traditional things we wanted..although we're still getting a little funky with it
...now bring on the stinking electric slide!!

Re: Is it wrong...........
We will not have the electric slide (and other similar 'group' dances), but other than that my wedding will be pretty typical, too. What will differentiate us are the flowers and other colorful things. Neither I nor my Fh have a problem with this.
