is the any harm

is the any harm

With paying for my gown in full? I'm going to formally put it on order on Friday. I actually have all the money to pay for it now. I would only have to worry about the alterations. I figured it would be a better idea then having to pay for yet another thing down the road. What is everyone else doing? What if something happens with my gown and then they won't accomdate me with anything since it was paid in full?????

Personally, I wouldn't do it. God forbid anything happens you have something to hold over their head by not paying it all in full.

ITA I paid in full for both of my dresses and I felt that I was treated more poorly than if I'd only left a deposit. I paid many of my vendors in full upfront and felt some of them were less accommodating as well.

I wouldn't do it either. I decided to get a new dress 5 months before the wedding and I am not the type to change my mind like this. Once I pick something I stick with it-- I had bought my dress, I was happy, DONE with that part . . . Until FH commented how awful a dress was that looked almost identical to my original. After that there was NO WAY I could wear that dress on my wedding day! Thank God I had only paid about half of the dress, because I lost all the money I put down! Just in case, you never know what might happen, I wouldn't pay more than you're required to now!

This is exactly why I wouldn't pay for it in full. You have over a year and I know I like to change my mind! Why don't you just give it to someone to hold onto until you're ready to make your final payment? Or you could pay more than the recommended deposit, but not all.

I paid for my dress in full when I bought-but I bought from the Nicole Miller store in Soho. I had no problems with anything and it came in really quickly, less than two weeks if I can remember.

However, I agree with the other girls and say that you should not pay in full only because if there is a problem then you can use that to your advantage.

I definitely would do it....only because I always think about the 'what if'...Could you give it to someone to hold it for you till the dress gets here so you don't spend it?

I would avoid paying for it in full just in case something happens down the road. Might as well put the money in a savings account and get some interest from it.

Thanks guys. My Grandmother is paying for my gown, so a check was given to me last saturday for everything. Maybe I should just give it to someone to hold, Its not that I don't trust myself leaving it in our joint account, I just want to keep my gown/alterations money aside from all the other stuff. I'm also going though Macy's and I have gotten so many giftcards in drips and drabs so that it also an advantage with not paying it in full in case I get more for my birthday which is in January LOL!

i had to pay for my gown in full. it was fine bc the bills really add up. i had another $500 in alterations later on so i still had that to pay but i suggest getting things paid off as soon as you can...

Put the money in a separate savings account and don't touch it until you pick up your dress. That way the money will be set aside for it and it won't feel like yet another big expense down the road.

You never know what could happen. I ordered my gown from a seemingly reputable store that had been in business for over 20 years. It closed before I received my dress. I wound up getting the dress directly from the designer, but had to pay what the store still owed on the dress (which was a little more than what I still owed under the contract with the store). It would have been worse if I'd already paid the store in full.

I wouldn't put it all down now, just in case something happened. Take the extra money and put it in a CD, then it will make some extra money while you wait to pay the total
