Is this a cheesy idea?

Is this a cheesy idea?

And I know you will all be honest with me on this one!

On the invitation to my friend's bridal shower a few years ago, guests were invited to bring an 'unwrapped Christmas ornament' to put on their Christmas tree. And at the shower there was one of those mini-trees set up so people could put the ornament on.

I would LOVE to do something like that!!

My friend got married in late October and her shower was in September. I'm planning an August wedding, so I'm going to assume my shower would be in June/July.

Do you think I would look tacky if I put on my wedding invite for guests to bring an Ornament and then have a tree set up at the reception?

No, you know what you could do... Your invite can say something like

Help us start our first christmas together by bringing one for the Couples Tree...

OR something on that line...

Theres always a way around it. You could always have a palm tree also lol

the only problem I can see is it might be hard for people to find christmas stuff in June.

OOoo You know I thought the same thing abouta minute ago...

BUT...you know what would fix that?!?!?

If you were to (along with the invite) send them a coupon to either Personalizationmall.com or personalcreations.com...

They have ornaments all year

I like the idea of the wording for the invite....THANKS!

But can I do that for the WEDDING invite, not the shower invite?

I dont think it would work having the tree set up, it being summer and all, but maybe they could bring the ornaments and write well wishes to you and your FH and you can hang them on your tree for Christmas 09 which will be your first Christmas as a married couple.

Although it's not at all cheesy, it would certainly be difficult for people to buy ornaments during a summer month. We did this for my sister's shower, but hers was in late November. You have to think though - if people are spending a lot of money buying ornaments over the internet and shipping them to themselves, they might spend less on your actual gift. Something to think about...

i dont care for the idea when it would be directly in the middle of summer... but i do think its great for others having their around xmas time... although that doesnt help you much! sorry!

I think if you want to do it you should do it...
because people can order ornaments all year round.. plusthere are storeslike the Christmas Store in Port Jeff, where it's Christmas all year long...

However, if your shower is in JULY, you could do it then and have the CHRISTMAS IN JULY celebration.. a lot of stores do that.. and have sales

i think its a really really great idea!! but, i feel like summer would be a little too far before christmas to have a tree set up at the reception.

I also think it's a GREAT idea... but might be too far in advance.

Depending on the tree...if it is a xmas tree I think it won't look right during the summer but you can get one of the trees that looks like branches and that could work....it may be difficult to find xmas ornaments over the summer so that is something to think about...your guests may be hunting for them.

Thanks for the input! I remember my friend got such nice ornaments for her first tree and I'm such a sentimental idiot, that I would love to be able to look at all the ornaments like ten years from now and say, 'Awwww....we got this for our wedding....'

But an August wedding makes this a little harder to do....

I love the idea!!

I just went to a baby shower this weekend, and on the invite it said instead of buying a card, please write your name and a message in a book for the baby. I thought that was the coolest idea ever!! Cards basically cost the same as a book would these days and at least the book is helpful down the line!

I don't think it'll be too much of hassle actually...when does Hallmark put their ornaments out? I could have sworn it was at the end of the summer!?

If it's too hard to get a tree, or if it's going to clash with your theme..you can always get those trees that are just the white branches..you know what i'm talking about??

I say go for it!!
